Dragons, Marauders named All-HHC in tennis

The best boys tennis players of 2015 have been honored by the Hoosier Heritage Conference. Among the all-conference selections are Mt. Vernon’s Brendon Ware a Hancock County champion at No. 1 singles.

Joining Ware are three New Palestine Dragons and fellow county champions. Freshman singles player Matthew True earned an all-conference selection along with sectional champion teammates Evan Rejer and Josh McKinney, who were voted unanimously.

Individual, doubles tennis champs crowned

North Central seniors JJ Kroot and Jon Tuerk doubled up this past weekend, winning the doubles tennis state championship after helping the Panthers claim the team state title the week prior.

The duo finished with a 14-1 season record and were 11-0 in the state tournament, advancing out of Friday’s quarterfinals at Park Tudor School before running through Saturday’s semifinals and title match at Five Seasons Club.

Sam Concannon of Culver Academies halted the North Central sweep by beating Panthers singles player Steven Christie in the finals.

Concannon finished the year a perfect 19-0 and 9-0 in the tournament.
