The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

May 20

Pizza King

Location: 237 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: routine

No violations found.

Ponderosa Steakhouse

Location: 1585 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: routine

Violations: C—go over with cooks when to wash hands, when and how to change gloves (food handling), corrected; utensils (cooking) used in food preparation or hot foods need to be able to withstand heat and not become distorted, corrected, removed.

May 26

Dairy Queen

Location: 346 W. Broadway, Fortville

Type of inspection: routine

Violations: NC—handle of ice scoop in ice by drive-thru window, corrected; C—milk being held at 50 degrees, needs to be held at 41 degrees or below, corrected; NC—clean floor and outlet at corner by old drive-thru, clean floor in corners and along floor/wall juncture where food/grease and debris has accumulated, 90 days; C—need to have employee illness/reporting policy available, 90 days.

El Cinco De Mayo

Location: 290 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of inspection: routine

Violations: NC—ice scoop sitting on ice machine must be on clean surface, corrected; NC–need to submit plans to health department before remodeling, 30 days; NC—no soap at hand sink, corrected; no towels (paper) at hand sink, corrected; NC—wiping cloths need to be stored in sanitizer between uses, 30 days; C—rice and refried beans not being held hot enough, food discarded; NC—food thermometer needs to be provided and used, 30 days.

Steak ’n Shake

Location: 2121 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: routine

No violations found.

Mi Casa Restaurant

Location: 1550 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: routine

Violations: C—need to have food handler certification in store, 90 days; C—food in walk-in too warm at 45 degrees, needs to hold food at 41 degrees or below, write down temperature in morning, keep temperature log, 90 days; NC/R—uncovered food in walk-in cooler, 90 days; NC—need to have working and accurate food thermometer, 90 days; NC—dish machine wash cycle too cool, needs to be 120 degrees, 90 days; NC—replaced light rods that are not working, 90 days.

June 1

Wendy’s Restaurant

1508 N. State Road 9, Greenfield

Type of inspection: routine

Violations: NC—no paper towels at hand sink, corrected; NC—walk-in cooler fan water is dripping and being put into air by fan, all food is covered, be sure read-to-eat food does not become contaminated, 120 days.

Wings, Etc. Grill and Pub

Location: 1925 Melody Lane, Greenfield

Type of inspection: routine

Violations: C—need to have infection control/illness reporting policy, 30 days; C—food was found dated past seven days holding, corrected; NC—forks need to be stored so handles are touched by employees, not eating surface, corrected; NC—after use, mops shall be placed in a position that allows them to air dry, 30 days.

Violations: NC—clean floor under tables in pizza prep area, in corners and along edges. Also clean legs of tables, 120 days.
