Restaurant Inspections – October 3

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

July 27

El Jaripeo

Location: 38 W. Main St., New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — review with all employees when they need to wash hands and proper way to clean/wash hands, to be corrected by July 30; C – food must only come in contact with food grade equipment, repair or replace chip cover, to be corrected by July 30; NC – need to protect ice scoop at ice machine, must be placed in clean container, cannot touch wall, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

Hampton Inn

Location: 2271 William Way, Greenfield

Violations found: C – dish machine not dispensing sanitizer, corrected; C/R – do not contaminate gloves by touching surfaces that are not food contact surfaces like cooler door handles, waitress cannot touch lettuce with bare hands, cannot reuse food handling gloves, corrected.

Aug. 1

White Castle

Location: 2253 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C/R — employees need to wash hands/change gloves when changing tasks that enable gloves to become contaminated, corrected; C — milk shake machine not holding/maintaining the product in top hopper at 41 degrees or lower, corrected; NC/R — ice scoop for ice machine needs to be stored so as to protect from contamination, not on ice machine, corrected; NC — food thermometer must be accessible/working and used, corrected; NC — clean floors under grill, under milk shake machine and mop sink area (attracting flies and gnats), clean freezer floors to remove food debris, clean inside of cooler to remove sill residue, to be corrected by Sept. 1.
