FOOD SAFETY INSPECTIONS

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Nov. 24

Arby’s

Location: 1705 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC – lettuce cannot touch rack holding equipment and utensils, corrected/discarded; NC – paper towels need to be provided in restroom, corrected.

Firehouse Subs

Location: 22. E. McClarnon Drive, Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: C – employee seen touching face before proceeding to work on food prep without washing hands and using gloves, corrected; NC – calibrate thermometers as needed for accuracy, seven days; NC – sanitizer test strips need to be available and used, seven days.

Hawk’s Tail

Location: 1453 Morristown Pike, Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: C/R – need to have current food handlers certificate, 90 days.

Little Caesar’s Pizza

Location: 1633 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC – all soiled linens should be kept in laundry bag to prevent contamination of clean equipment, corrected; paper towels need to be provided at all hand-washing sinks, seven days.

Nov. 30

McDonald’s

Location: 1490 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC – hand sinks in women’s restroom and hand sink in prep area need to be 100 degrees, 120 days; C – remove equipment and coffee residue from hand-washing facility, corrected; C – health policy must be posted and reviewed, corrected.

Jay Rae’s Eatery and Bakery

Location: 28 E. Main St., New Palestine

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC/R — obtain food thermometer that can measure thin meats such as hamburger, 90 days; C — must date-mark lunch meat and hold at 41 degrees or less for a maximum of seven days, corrected.

K-Dog’s Pizza and Chicken

Location: 207 S. Main St., Shirley

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: C — refrigerated, ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous food needs to be date-marked, corrected.

Dollar General Store

Location: 4453 Main St., Wilkinson

Type of inspection: Routine

No violations.

Dec. 4

Waffle House

Location: 1752 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC/R — need to provide thin-tip thermometer for thin patties such as sausage, hamburgers, etc., 90 days; NC/R — post permit in public view.

Mom & Pop’s Grocery

Location: 203 S. Main St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC — clean area in kitchen around three-compartment sink and hand sink.

‘Round the Corner Pub

Location: 19 Bittner Road, New Palestine

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: C – no certified food handler, 90 days; NC/R – spoons and tongs by salad prep cooler must be presented so handles are reachable, corrected; C – dish machine not dispensing sanitizer, corrected; NC – wipe down shelf above food prep cooler where plates and other items are stored, corrected.

Huck’s Convenience Food & Fuel

Location: 322 E. Broadway, Fortville

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC — post current permit; C — roller food not hot enough, sandwich cooler running warm, corrected; C — expired food (cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, turkey, lunch meat), corrected/discarded; C — lunch meat in cooler not date marked, corrected; NC — need thermometers in all cooling units: prep cooler, cooler by three-compartment sink, etc., 90 days; C — must wash, rinse and sanitize all utensils and food contact surfaces, immediately; NC — three-compartment sink must have at least 110-degree water, 90 days; NC — need sanitizing test strips, immediately.

Walmart Supercenter Market

Location: 1965 N. State Road 9, Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC – thermometers not working in deli case where salads are held, hot food holder needs thermometer with lower range, 150 days.
