Staff report

In his second start of the season, Arizona Diamondbacks rookie right-handed pitcher Drey Jameson threw 71 pitches in 3 2/3 innings pitched Tuesday in St. Louis.

Jameson left with his club ahead, but the Greenfield native did not go the necessary five innings to qualify for the win.

The Diamondbacks beat the Cardinals 8-7.

Jameson, a 2017 Greenfield-Central graduate who pitched two seasons at Ball State before being a first-round draft choice of the Diamondbacks, struck out three, walked four and gave up three hits and two earned runs.

He began the year out of the Arizona bullpen, and went 2-0 with one save in three outings. He moved into the D-backs rotation after an injury to starter Zach Davies.

This season, he is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA. He has struck out 15 in 16 innings of work.

Called up at the end of last season to make his big league debut, Jameson went 3-0 in four starts.

In nine major league games, he is 5-0 with a save and a 1.79 ERA.

Jameson is listed as the scheduled starter for Sunday’s 4:10 p.m. contest, at home, against the San Diego Padres. Yu Darvish is scheduled to start for the Padres.
