Food Safety
The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Violations found: C — employee observed touching raw chicken, then touching utensils; dish machine in bar area not sanitizing at proper concentration, corrected; NC — a remodel of kitchen was done without approval from the Hancock County Health Department, submit current layout, hand sink will need to be installed closer to front food prep area, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Fortville Broadway Diner
Location: 426 E. Broadway St., Fortville
Type of Inspection: Routine
Violations found: C — nacho cheese sauce is below 135 degrees, sanitizer in sani buckets is too strong, debris on slicer, debris in drawers where utensils are stored, corrected; NC/R — handles and drawer fronts of cabinet holding utensils have debris, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC — provide test strips for sanitizer, to be corrected by Nov. 7.

Violations found: C — chicken fingers in hot-holding not hot enough (must be 135 degrees or higher), corrected; NC — floor very slippery, build-up of seeds/salt on bottom of unit hold-holding burgers, also debris on freezer holding burgers, to be corrected by Oct. 1.
