Baseball roundup: EH’s Rouse throws no-hitter

Eastern Hancock’s Hayden Rouse threw a no-hitter, struck out 12, and drove in two runs in a 13-0 victory, at home, over Tri Friday.

The win extended the baseball team’s winning streak to four games.

On Thursday, also at home, the Royals defeated Randolph Southern 11-1 in a Mid-Eastern Conference game.

Rouse had one of two extra base hits in the win over the Titans. He and Brayden Sullivan each had doubles.

Gavin Jenkins drove in two runs and Carson Borden stole two bases.

In the win over Randolph Southern, Eastern Hancock scored in every inning but the first.

Eastern Hancock had a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. The Royals scored twice in the fourth, four times in the fifth and three times in the sixth.

Jenkins had three hits, including a triple, and three RBI. Chase Stewart had three hits and an RBI. Conner Wittgren had a pair of hits and two RBI. Caleb Retherford had two RBI. Jalen Helderbrand had a double. Borden had a hit, an RBI and two stolen bases.

Stewart had a six-inning complete game victory, giving up just two hits and striking out nine.

The Royals are 3-1 in MEC games.

Eastern Hancock (7-8) hosts Frankton (5-7) Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Mt. Vernon splits with Richmond

Mt. Vernon’s baseball team split a doubleheader with visiting Richmond Saturday.

The Marauders won the opener 8-1 and lost the second game 2-0.

In the victory, Mt. Vernon broke a scoreless game with a four-run third inning. Two runs each were scored in the fourth and fifth innings.

Josh James had a double, two RBI, stole two bases and scored two runs. Hayden Ford had a triple an RBI, a stolen base and scored twice. Nick Heitman hit a solo home run. Nathan Criss drove in two runs.

Jack Peine got the win. He threw six innings and struck out 12. He gave up just two hits and two walks. Caden Taylor threw the seventh inning and struck out the side in order.

In Game 2, both teams had five hits.

Mason Meyer, Grant Payson, Tristan Sitton, Gavin Joy and James each had one hit. All were singles.

Griffin Raquet struck out 12 and gave up just one earned run and one walk.

Mt. Vernon (10-5) travels to Brebeuf (12-6) Monday. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
