GREENFIELD

Carl Ray Slifer, age 83, of Greenfield, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born in Greenfield on September 27, 1940 to Glen Milford and Gayle Ilene (Fisher) Slifer. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1958. Corporal Carl honorably served in the Marine Corps from 1958 -1962. He married Betty Jean (Ethridge) Slifer on January 9, 1960 in Greenfield.

He worked for the Pepsi Cola Company in Indianapolis, Indiana within the Sales Department for 34 years. Carl retired from there in 2003. He was a hard worker and was also a self-employed cleaner in Greenfield for 15 years. Carl was a devoted member of Greenfield Faith Church. He enjoyed square dancing with Riley Wranglers for many years. He also was an avid painter and loved to build and create different masterpieces. Furthermore, Carl was a former resident of Tennessee and greatly enjoyed visiting and spending time there. Carl was a family man and cherished his children and grandchildren. He also gave back to the community by volunteering at Kenneth Butler Soup Kitchen.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jean Slifer of Greenfield; daughters, Karla (Ken) Smoak of Shirley, Christina (Kevin) Haggard of Shelbyville, and Debra (Phil) Jackson of Thorntown; 10 grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon) Hubbard, Brittany (Craig) Redstone, Holly (Brandon) Nichols, Heath Haggard, Drew Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Kenneth (Cassandra) Smoak, Esther Jackson, Tabitha (Grayson) Good, and Caleb Jackson; 6 great-grandchildren, Hayden, Alyssa, Payton, Jeffrey, Braydon, and Natalie; brother, Lenard Slifer of Greenfield; and sister, Sandra Day of Greenfield. IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Glen Slifer; mother, Gayle Slifer; brother, Dale Slifer; and sister-in-law, Sue Slifer.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield with military rites presented by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard.
