Weekend golf roundup: County golfers tie for 13th

The Mt. Vernon boys golf team tied for seventh and New Palestine placed 13th at the Trojan Invitational, hosted by Center Grove, at Hickory Stick Golf Course in Greenwood Saturday.

Mt. Vernon tied for seventh with Yorktown with a 324. New Palestine shot a 339. Center Grove, ranked No. 6 in the state, won with a round of 297. There were 18 teams in the event.

New Palestine’s Luke Cofer and Mt. Vernon’s Elijah Lemmon and Nils Erkmanis tied for 13th individually with the lowest rounds among Hancock County golfers. All shot a 6-over-par 77. There were 90 golfers in the field.

The Dragons are back in action Monday against Triton Central. Mt. Vernon, along with Lapel, travel to Yorktown Tuesday.

G-C shoots 346

Greenfield-Central’s boys golf team shot a 346 in the team’s first 18-hole tournament of the season.

Tyler Young shot a 76 to lead the Cougars at the Danville Invitational held at Twin Bridges Golf Club.

Avery Young finished with an 81 and Corbin Elliott added an 88. Jon Smith was the final scoring golfer with a 101. Trevor Smith finished with a 103.

Hamilton Southeastern won the tournament with a 291.
