Letter to the Editor: Population is growing fast and huge, mostly in areas it shouldn’t

To the Editor:

Many economists see no way forward except for growth and immigration. This is hopefully a soon-to-be outdated idea. The world’s population is growing fast and huge, mostly in areas it shouldn’t. However, the UN predicts that the human population will peak in about 60 years. The United States should have peaked already. Most developed nations can’t and won’t accept that many immigrants. It wouldn’t be so bad if we were just trying to stay near the replacement level.

Liberal economists (some call them “build to disaster economists”) claim that growth lifts people out of war and poverty, but in reality, growth has always been the cause of war and poverty. 38 million Americans are living in poverty, many are hungry, and our wages haven’t seen a meaningful increase since the Reagan era. We have nice things because we’re in debt. Anyone fortunate enough to own land doesn’t have much choice in what they do with it, hence the monoculture.

Immigration (a.k.a. economic growth) burdens resources, and resources are the backbone of our nation. While resource management has improved in America, the Dead Zones in the Gulf of Mexico from agricultural runoff, and many other problems, are not getting better. Indiana hasn’t seen significant conservation efforts in years, and we’ve never had much locally. Immigration is not a solution for energy or anything else, not anymore.

It’s an analogy, but how many years and incidents did it take for the National Park Service to enforce not feeding wildlife? Why was Prohibition a good-hearted policy gone wrong? Some people can get stuck in traffic and think we need more cars on the road. Let them be the new minority.

Every country should be able to manage itself with minimal immigration and emigration, and without exhausting amounts of trade. Developers and sympathizers should not be allowed near public offices. We can’t let people come here whose homeland can’t support them, there may never be an end to it. This isn’t about racism; races are a natural occurrence from centuries of separation. It’s okay to keep our country from looking like areas of the overpopulated southern hemisphere.
