Riley Home to host 2024 events

GREENFIELD – The James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home announced its 2024 season opening this week, Tuesday, March 12, through Oct. 26.

The home, which is open for tours at 250 W. Main St., Greenfield, also released its upcoming events for 2024. Pre-eclipse tours will be April 8. Mr. Riley’s Taylor Swift Album Party will be April 18. An Indy 500 event will be May 11, and a Pixy Tea Party June 30. Special events related to the Riley Festival will be Oct. 3-6, and the annual Jack O’ Lantern Festival will be Oct. 25-31. A Christmas Open House is planned for Dec. 7.

Libertarian Party to host candidate event

GREENFIELD – Meet local and state candidates for the Libertarian Party in an upcoming event.

The Hancock County Libertarian Party will host a public meet and greet event at 6 p.m. March 28 at the Hancock County Courthouse Annex, 111 American Legion Place, Greenfield.

Donald Rainwater, Libertarian candidate for governor, will be at the event, as well as several county Libertarian candidates.

MVEF to host annual gala

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation will host its 2024 Black and Gold Gala next month.

“Together We Are Illuminating Futures” is the theme of the event set for 5:30-11:30 p.m. April 6 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. Event highlights include a VIP reception, cocktail reception and silent auction, dinner and program and dancing. The event is an opportunity to celebrate contributions from staff and teacher of the year award winners, distinguished alumni, business partners and more. Emcee will be Rafael Sanchez.

Scholarships available through Tri Kappa

GREENFIELD – Tri Kappa, a local service sorority, is seeking Hancock County applicants for local scholarships to be awarded for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Scholarships include: high school scholarship for seniors Hancock County high schools (a total of $5,000 will be awarded); Mary Ann Strawmyer Pickett Continuing Studies Scholarship for women at least 25 years old (a total of $500 will be awarded); Helen Roath Memorial Continuing Education Scholarship for people who have had their normal course of education interrupted for any reason (a total of $800 will be awarded).

Local center offers free meals with groceries

GREENFIELD – Enjoy a free meal prior to picking up free groceries at upcoming community events.

Wellspring Food Pantry, located at Brandywine Community Church, hosts Community Day every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Upcoming dates are March 13 and March 27.

A lunch is from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the church, 1551 W. New Road, Greenfield. The food pantry, located at the barn adjacent to the church, will have a drive-through grocery pickup from 1:30-3 p.m. both days.
