MT. COMFORT —“It’s like speed dating for missions.”

An upcoming breakfast is designed to offer a glimpse into a variety of ministries, so potential volunteers can learn about serving opportunities and find the best fit.

Missions Breakfast is set for 8:30-10:30 a.m. March 9 at Mt. Comfort Church’s Mt. Comfort Campus, 3179 N. County Road 600W, Greenfield.

Nine organizations have been invited to lead informational breakout sessions so people can be aware of these organizations and learn how to get involved.

Ethan Maple, the church’s lead pastor and coiner of the “speed dating for missions” description, said in a typical year the church highlights mission opportunities when a month has a fifth Sunday, inviting a guest speaker to highlight that work.

But 2024 doesn’t have as many fifth Sundays, and one of them is Easter (March 31). So the church sought a different way to highlight area ministries.

“We didn’t want to lose the opportunity to focus on missions,” Maple said. “Our emphasis in missions and outreach is we want to be a church that helps create kingdom and community investors — so you can invest yourself into what they’re doing, and it doesn’t have to be about us.”

The church’s men’s ministry will serve breakfast starting at 8:30. Then around 9:15, the first of two 20-minute breakout sessions will start. Those who go can choose the two sessions they want to attend.

Of the organizations invited, several have confirmed they’re sending representatives to speak: Love INC of Greater Hancock County, Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen, Hope House, The Landing, Talitha Koum Women’s Recovery House, Hancock County Food Pantry, Hope Center Indy and Hancock County Boys and Girls Clubs.

One Mission Society will also send people to share information. The church has partnered with OMS, whose headquarters are in Greenwood. It helps people interested in going on a mission trip find a team.

The breakfast is free. Registration is available via a link at mtcomfortchurch.com but is not required.

The event was inspired by asking “How do we create an easy onramp for people to invest in the kingdom and the community?” Maple said. “We want to help people connect with where God is leading them.”
