GREENFIELD — Dan Riley, Greenfield City Council president, recently endorsed Republican Ethan Lawson for the soon-to-be open seat for State Representative of District 53 according to a press release.

Riley described Lawson as an authentic, conservative fighter that he thinks Hancock County needs serving in the state legislature alongside Senator Mike Crider. District 53 covers Hancock County and portions of Madison County.

“His experience inside and outside of the Statehouse brings the fresh perspective of a new generation of leadership. Ethan is a workhorse whose experience, relationships and energy will bring results from day one,” Riley said in a press release.

Lawson currently serves as the vice chair and a precinct committee member for the Hancock County Republican Party. He works for the Indiana National Guard, working his way through college and earning a degree in business.

Lawson and his wife, Holly, have built their home near Greenfield, are members at Otterbein Methodist Church and are committed to advancing conservative ideals.

Listed on his website, Lawson’s priorities if elected for state representative included responsible growth and supporting local control and agricultural roots; lower taxes; combat drugs coming in across the borders with investment in enforcement and addiction recovery efforts; support military, public safety and first responders; defend the second amendment; and promote education within children and career opportunities.

Riley said that Lawson leads his life with faith, freedom and service beyond, and that Lawson has been walking around and knocking on the doors across the district finding out the needs of voters, “which is the service-first demeanor we need leading us today.”

Lawson said that he has known Riley most of the last decade and are both active in the local Republican Party and civic activities together.

“I’ve seen Ethan’s integrity and values as a local Republican leader as he’s worked relentlessly to support conservative Republicans up and down the ballot,” Riley said. “His service has made a difference for our district, and it’s now time for him to take that experience and energy to the Statehouse.”

Riley is currently president of the city council and has served the community for decades, including but not limited to being on the Greenfield-Central School Board for three terms, Indiana State House Young Republicans, a state convention delegate and a vice precinct committeeman.

“I’m thankful for Greenfield City Council President Dan Riley’s results, passion and commitment to making Greenfield a vibrant and safe community to call home,” said Lawson in a press release. “I look forward to working with Dan and other leaders across our district to make sure our local voice is heard and that our government listens to us and works for us.”
