Big band, swing concert coming to HCPL

GREENFIELD – The Racoon Lake Sax Quartet will pay tribute to the big band and swing eras in an upcoming free concert.

The quartet will perform at 6:30 p.m. March 25 at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.

The group will feature many popular songwriters and chart-topping songs of the era, and also provide facts, trivia and other background information at the all-ages event. Register at hcplibrary.org or call 317-462-5141.

Friends of the Library to host book sale

GREENFIELD – Friends of the Library will host a book sale this week, raising money for concerts, children’s performers and special projects at the Hancock County Public Library.

A Friends members-only sale is this Thursday. The sale is open to the public Friday through Monday at the central library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.

Most hardbacks are $1, paperbacks are 50 cents. Children’s books are 50 cents and 25 cents. DVDs, CDs and audiobooks are $1.

Friends of the Library is also seeking new members and volunteers that would like to assist with supporting the HCPL. Membership forms are available at the Friends Book Store in Greenfield and New Palestine. It is also available to download from the library’s website https://hcplibrary.org/about/friends.htm.

Calligraphy workshop March 15

GREENFIELD – Learn about hand lettering and creating your own faux calligraphy in an Adult Art Night coming up.

The event, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. March 15, is hosted by Greenfield Parks and Recreation Art Studio, located in the lower level of the Patricia Elmore Center, 280 N. Apple St., Greenfield. Cost is $15 and refreshments are included. Participants will create four custom greeting cards. Register at parksingreenfield.com/adult-programs.

Student art exhibit throughout March

GREENFIELD – See art from Hancock County’s junior and senior high school students in an upcoming exhibit.

The Twenty North Gallery will host pieces from Eastern Hancock, Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon and New Palestine public schools as well as the Greenfield Homeschool Co-op throughout March. A reception will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. this Friday at the gallery, 20 N. State St., Greenfield. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Inspiring Abilities Expo March 9

GREENFIELD – The Inspiring Abilities Expo returns Saturday, offering local families resources for children and family members with disabilities.

The free event, hosted by Families United For Support and Encouragement (FUSE) and The Arc of Hancock County, will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at JB Stephens Elementary School, 1331 N. Blue Road, Greenfield.

Keynote speakers begin at 9 a.m.; the exhibit hall is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is available through a link at facebook.com/fuseinc. For more, call 317-462-9064.
