Homemaker club shares about Make a Difference Day

GREENFIELD – A local extension homemakers club recently shared photos and details of their Make a Difference Day donations last fall.

The Country Harmony Home Extension Club participated in a day of community service Oct. 22.

The club presented diapers, wipes, clothing and socks to Life Choices Care Center in Greenfield. They then traveled to Hancock Regional Hospital’s cancer center and presented snacks and fabric hearts to give to patients, as well as a poem titled “Angel of Healing” to give to patients. The group went on to the obstetrics/gynecology department and presented a clip-on stroller shade and noise machine. Their last stop was the Green Township Fire Department, where the club donated 45 teddy bears to pass out to children involved in fires. The club members hope to make the community service day an annual event.

Club to discuss herb of the year

GREENFIELD – “All Things Yarrow” is the theme of an upcoming meeting of the Hancock County Herb Society.

Yarrow is the 2024 Herb of the Year, and a program about the plant will be at 6:30 p.m. March 7 at ‘Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen, located behind the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and Museum, 250 W. Main St., Greenfield. Mary Greenan, Ellen Manolopoulos and Gwen Betor will present on the history, uses and propagation of yarrow.

Retired teachers meeting March 13

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Retired Teachers Association will have a meeting and luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 13.

The event will be at the Sue Wortman Cancer Center conference room at Hancock Regional Hospital, where program presenters will be Steve Long, CEO of the hospital, and Allyson Smith, director of the Hancock Health Foundation.

Any retired teacher who has retired from Hancock County schools or currently resides in Hancock County is invited. Lunch will be provided following the meeting for those who send in a reservation. Reserve a spot by emailing [email protected] or text 317-332-2744.

Birding group events starting back up in April

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Birderes recently announced community birding events, hosted at local parks this spring and summer.

The group, in collaboration with Greenfield Parks and Recreation and the National Audubon Society, will host events to gather and view birds at 8 a.m. April 13 at Beckenholdt Park, 2770 N. Franklin St., Greenfield; and 8 a.m. April 27 at Brandywine Park, 900 E. Davis Road, Greenfield. There will be two events to view birds each month from April through October at Beckenholdt and Brandywine parks, as well as Thornwood Nature Preserve.
