The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection reports.

Oct. 2

Fortville Broadway Diner

426 E. Broadway St., Fortville

Violations found: C – hand sink is blocked and has broken faucet, to be corrected by Oct. 4; C – employee observed putting on food-handling gloves without washing hands beforehand; employee observed cracking raw egg with gloves and then touching cooking utensils and plates, corrected; C, R – drain line of three-compartment sink is directly connected to sewer drain line, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC, R – establishment needs to provide service sink (mop sink) equipped with hot and cold water, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC – to-go cups need to be stored in original sleeves to protect lips of cups, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC, R – debris on top of refrigerators and shelving supports above steam table and prep cooler across from grill top, to be corrected by Oct.4; C R – unit with drawers holding cooking utensils has debris in drawers, utensils need to be stored in a clean protected area; NC, R – floors behind/under equipment have debris build-up, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC – some floor tiles in kitchen have cracks, panels in breading area need to be sealed; NC – floor surfaces in kitchen need to be covered so surfaces are smooth and cleanable, to be corrected by Nov. 1; C – food manager certification is expired, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Violation found: C – some deli meats had dates past seven days, corrected.

Oct. 9

Buffalo Wild Wings

Violations found: C – employee health policy needs to have exposure to food-borne illness included, to be corrected by Oct. 10; NC – mop sink needs to be sealed/caulked at wall/sink juncture, to be corrected by Nov. 10.

Oct. 13

Mozzi’s Pizza

2221 W. Main st., Greenfield

Violations found: C – pepperoni for salads needs to be separate from pepperoni for pizza since pizzas are made with bare hands; suggest putting container of pepperoni at salad station that was not used on pizza prep table, corrected; NC – no paper towels at hand sink near dish-washing area, corrected; NC – faucets in dish-washing area are leaking, to be corrected by Nov. 15.

Noble Roman’s Craft Pizza and Pub

6857 W. Broadway St., McCordsville

Violations found: C – spray bottles with chemicals were not labeled with common name, corrected; NC – need to provide working test strips for sanitizer, to be corrected by Nov. 8; NC – no paper towels were available at hand sinks in dough room and dish-washing area to be corrected by Nov. 8; NC – no soap available at hand sinks in pizza make area and dish-washing area, corrected; NC – debris build-up on equipment in dough room and ventilation hood over pizza oven, to be corrected by Nov. 8; NC, R – debris build-up on floor along edges in dish-washing area and in walk-in cooler, to be corrected by Nov. 8; NC, R – coving has come off behind dish machine, to be corrected by Nov. 8.

Violations found: NC, R – no soap at hand sink in pizza prep area, corrected; NC, R – no paper towels at hand sink in pizza prep area, corrected; C – employee observed not washing hands before putting on food handling gloves in pizza prep area, corrected; C – spray bottle with chemical in kitchen not labeled with common name of chemical, corrected; C – dish machine in wine-tasting area was not dispensing sanitizer, corrected; C – slicer in upstairs kitchen that was “clean” had food debris, correct before next use; C – employee observed not sanitizing bowl after washing and rinsing, corrected; NC – need to provide test strips for sanitizer at wine-tasting dish machine and three-compartment sink in upstairs kitchen, to be corrected by Nov. 4; NC – walk-in freezer has ice build-up on unit and floor and door does not close properly, to be corrected by Nov. 25.
