Purse fundraiser to benefit Meals on Wheels

GREENFIELD – Meals on Wheels of Hancock County will host a Spring Designer Purse Bingo fundraiser in March.

The event is 5:30-9:30 p.m. March 21 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 515 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield. Tickets are $50 and includes 15 games, dinner and dessert. In addition to a chance to win purses, the event will include raffles, door prizes and more. Participants must be 21 to play.

Toastmasters to host open house

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Toastmasters Club will host an open house and alumni reunion from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at First Merchants Bank, 1810 N. State St., Greenfield.

Toastmasters International is an educational organization that helps people develop communication, public speaking and leadership skills.

No need to pre-register for the meeting Feb. 27; anyone is invited. The group meets both in-person and online; those who attend in person will be treated to breakfast. To join online, email Meg Claxton at [email protected].

The club meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month; guests are welcome at any meeting.

Fire academy applications available

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Fire Territory is accepting applications for the 2024 GFT Fire Academy.

The academy will be March 21 through July 25 on Mondays and Thursdays, with occasional Saturday meetings. Upon completion of the academy, students will receive certifications in Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations.

Parks summer camp registration opening

GREENFIELD – Kids Kamp registration opens March 4 through Greenfield Parks and Recreation.

The eight-week summer camp runs June 3 through July 26 and includes art, education, sports and more. Cost is $55 for registration, $60 for a field trip fee and $100 per week for residents, $110 per week for non-residents. Payment is for the entire summer program, regardless of whether children leave early or take a break for a vacation.

Meal in a jar workshop Feb. 27

GREENFIELD – Learn how to make meals in a jar in an upcoming event.

Purdue Extension Hancock County will host a workshop on creating soups or side dishes in jars as gifts or pantry staples that can last for months. There will be door prizes and participants will take home their own meal in a jar.

The event is at 6 p.m. Feb. 27 at the extension office, 972 E. Park Ave., Greenfield. Cost is $5. Register by Feb. 20 to [email protected] or call 317-462-1113.

Food preservation training in May

GREENFIELD – Learn the most current recommendations on food preservation in an upcoming training series.

Mastering Home Food Preservation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 6-9 at the Sarah Burke Exhibit Hall, 620 N. Apple St., Greenfield. Participants will learn resources, hear in-depth lectures, have hands-on practice and take part in interactive discussions. There will also be take-home products.
