Prom dress giveaway coming up

GREENFIELD – Once Upon a Prom Dress will be Feb. 3 and Feb. 4.

The prom dress giveaway is open to any high school student, regardless of financial status. School ID or proof of enrollment is required. Each student is eligible to receive one free formal dress, accessory item and pair of shoes.

The event is 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 3 by appointment only, then noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 3 for open shopping. The event is also open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 4 for open shopping. The event is at Overlook at Briney Creek, 687 S. 400E., Greenfield.

Chair exercise class coming up

GREENFIELD – An adult fitness class is coming up next week.

Chair Exercises for Seniors is designed to keep healthy minds and relieve stress through low-impact exercise. The $5 class is set for 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at Hancock County Purdue Extension, 972 E. Small Farm Conference coming up

DANVILLE – Registration is open for the 2024 Indiana Small Farm Conference, scheduled for Feb. 29 through March 1 at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville.

The event is hosted byPurdue University and includes sessions on urban agriculture, vegetable production, business, livestock, resilient agriculture, niche opportunities, equity and food security, flowers and more. The keynote speaker is Michael Kilpatrick, founder of Growing Farmers and host of the “Thriving Farmer Podcast” on how to network and learn about thriving in challenging times.

Libertarian Party convention Feb. 4

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Libertarian Party is hosting its annual convention at 2 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.

Anyone is welcome to attend the event, which will include an election of a new board and voting on candidates to run for office.

Mobile blood drives coming up

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several mobile blood drives are coming up across Hancock County during the first weeks of February.

Wooden Bear Brewing and Zion Lutheran Church will host drives Feb. 3. St. Michaels Catholic Church will host a drive Feb. 4. Hancock County Public Library’s Greenfield location will host a drive Feb. 10, while the New Palestine location will host a drive Feb. 11. Hancock Regional Hospital will host a mobile drive Feb. 16.

Winter reading programs at local libraries

GREENFIELD – Hancock County Public Library kicks off its winter reading challenge Feb. 1.

The challenge offers a chance for prizes for hours logged reading in the month of February. The program is for all ages, and includes family reading time – parents may apply time they spend reading to their children, as well as time spent in the library for programs. The Vernon Township Public Library launched its reading club last month, but it continues through Feb. 29. The Bingo-style tracking program is for teens and adults only; visit vtpl.lib.in.us to sign up

Adult book, social clubs available

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several programs are coming up for adults at local libraries.

Adults have several book clubs and writing clubs available to them in February through the Hancock County Public Library as well as Genealogy Open Research Feb. 12. Adult Crafternoon Club in Greenfield is Feb. 20, and the library’s local author series will feature Pete Fleck Feb. 27.
