Camp Invention returning this summer

HANCOCK COUNTY – Camp Invention is returning to local schools in Hancock County, offering elementary students a summer experience with science, technology, engineering, art and math.

Camp Invention, a national program, is for students entering grades 1-6. Cost is $270 but a discount is available at registration and for siblings.

Mt. Comfort Elementary School in the Mt. Vernon district offers the program June 3-7 while J. B. Stephens Elementary School in Greenfield offers it July 22-26. Learn more at invent.org/camp or email [email protected].

Polar Plunge coming up

GREENFIELD – The 2024 Polar Plunge is set for March 1, benefiting Special Olympics of Indiana and Eastern Hancock’s inclusive club.

Eastern Hancock SOAAR, or Something Outstanding About All Royals, is hosting the plunge at Eagle Creek. It is one of several Polar Plunges happening across the state, where friends and family sponsor individuals or groups to jump into the frigid waters of Indiana.

Proceeds benefit Special Olympics and a “Champions Together” banner at Eastern Hancock High School. Donations can be made in the form of a check to Eastern Hancock High School or cash at any office. Learn more or follow the link to support online at facebook.com/EasternHancockSchools.

Local college students named to honor lists

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several college students with Hancock County ties have been named to honor lists at colleges and universities for the Fall 2023 semester.

Caelan Alford of Fortville achieved dean’s list at the University of Kentucky, attending the university’s Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering.

Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio named students to its dean’s list for obtaining a 3.5 GPA while carrying at least 12 credit hours. Marco Leombruni, McCordsville; Sophia Miles, McCordsville; Hannah Taylor, Greenfield were named to the list. The university’s dean’s honor list for those obtaining a 3.75 GPA included McKenna Dean, New Palestine; Abigail Himes, McCordsville; and Benjamin Hulet, New Palestine.

Aimee Brittain of Fortville was recognized on the Utah Tech University’s president’s list, having obtained a 3.9 or higher GPA while completing at least 15 credits.

James Ratliff of McCordsville was named to the University of Iowa’s dean’s list; Ratliff is a fourth-year student majoring in English.

Mary Ellen Stratman of Greenfield was named to the Siena College dean’s list; the college is located in Loudonville, N.Y.

Trine University in Angola named two Hancock County students to the dean’s list for earning a 3.5 to 3.749 grade point average while completing at least 12 credit hours. Dean’s list honorees were Macy Huber Greenfield, majoring in exercise science; and Charles Johnson, New Palestine, majoring in biomedical engineering. Trine’s president’s list honors those with a GPA of 3.75 to 4.0. Local president’s list honorees were Garrett Adams, Greenfield, majoring in mechanical engineering; Merica Anderson, New Palestine, psychology; Samuel Blocher, Greenfield, mechanical engineering; Valentine Brooks, Greenfield, psychology; Rachel Campbell, Greenfield, exercise science and pre-physical therapy; Cade Clark, Fountaintown, criminal justice; Josiah Findley, Greenfield, actuarial science; Mia Griesmeyer, Greenfield, biology; Taylor Koch, Greenfield, sport management; Logan Lara, Fortville, mechatronics and robotics engineering; Tyler Murphy, Greenfield, design engineering technology; and Lucas Tutrow, Greenfield, civil engineering.
