“The Nutcracker” coming to MVHS auditorium

FORTVILLE – A dance academy will perform “The Nutcracker” at a local high school this weekend.

Dance Creations Academy Repertory Company performs the traditional holiday ballet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 2 and 2 p.m. Dec. 3 at Mt. Vernon High School, 8112 N. 200W., Fortville. Tickets are $20 per person plus $1.90 for ticket fees at dancecreationsacademy.com. Founded in Fishers in 1993, Dance Creations Academy began as choreography for liturgical dance in worship services. The dance studio has grown to an 8,000-square-foot facility with 300 students and 10 teachers.

Community choir to perform Christmas show

GREENFIELD – “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” is the theme of Greenfield Community Choir’s concert coming up.

The group will perform a holiday show at 4 p.m. Dec. 10 at Bradley United Methodist Church, 210 W. Main St., Greenfield. Donations are accepted; cookies and punch will be served following the concert.

Ag conference Dec. 1

GREENFIELD – Purdue Extension Hancock County will host a conference from 9:45 a.m. to noon Dec. 1.

Registration and breakfast opens at 9:15 a.m. at NineStarConnect, 2243 E. Main St., Greenfield. The event will feature updates on mapping and resources; pesticide information, agronomic management and details on railroad tracks and utility wires.

Octagon House Christmas events coming up

SHIRLEY – The 24th Annual Christmas Tree Walk is coming up at the Octagon House, 400 S. Railroad St., Shirley.

Participants can tour the historic home and view around a dozen trees decorated by local clubs and businesses.

Events are 4-8 p.m. Dec. 1-2 and Dec. 8-9 featuring free tours of the house and meals to purchase as a fundraiser for continued restoration of the historic home. The first weekend features a chicken and noodles dinner with dessert and drink for $12; the second weekend is a sandwich, soup, dessert and drink for $10.

The event coincides with the Shirley Christmas Tree Walk, which is 5-8 p.m. Dec. 2 in downtown Shirley, complete with drive-through lights at Shirley Park, a chili dinner and the arrival of Santa with bells.

“Letters to Santa” programs available

GREENFIELD – Opportunities are available for local children to send their wishlists to Santa.

Write a letter to Santa and drop it in the mailbox at town hall in McCordsville; or the Patricia Elmore Center or Depot Street Park in Greenfield. Include a stamped envelope with a return address for a surprise.

Parents of children in second grade and younger can also send a letter via email to [email protected] to be included in the annual “Letters to Santa” special publication in the Daily Reporter.
