Eight members of the Mid-Eastern Conference champion Eastern Hancock Royals football team made the 36-member All-MEC team, released earlier this month.

Selections from the Royals include: Dylan Bowman, Logan Hoskins, Gabe Johnson, Mark Kube, Eli Manship, Aaron Redmon, Kayden Ruble and Jacob Wickard.

Bowman, a senior defensive back/receiver, was tied for second in the MEC in interceptions with four. As a receiver, he was ninth in receiving yards with 371. He had six touchdown receptions and seven overall. He scored 54 points, adding 12 points on six two-point conversions. Additionally, as a kick returner, Bowman averaged 20.14 per return, No. 6 in the MEC.

Hoskins, a senior offensive tackle for the Royals’ high-powered offense and nose guard on defense, had 53 total tackles, five tackles for loss and a sack.

Johnson, a junior linebacker, was third in the MEC in total tackles with 100. He had 10.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

A sophomore running back, Kube led the MEC in rushing with 1,746 yards, averaging 134.3 yards per game and topped all scorers with 168 points (28 touchdowns). He averaged 7.01 yards per carry.

Sophomore wide receiver Manship topped all MEC receivers with 605 yards. He caught 46 passes and averaged 13.2 yards per catch and scored three touchdowns.

A senior kicker/wide receiver, Redmon had a conference best five field goals, including the game-winner in a sectional victory over Lapel. He had 31 PATs and added 10 receptions for 98 yard as a receiver.

A junior tight end, Ruble was third in the MEC in receiving yards with 444. He had 37 receptions and averaged 12 yards per catch to go with four touchdowns.

Wickard, a senior center, was primarily an offensive lineman, helping pave the way for a Royals offense that averaged 34.2 points and 387.4 yards per game.

Eastern Hancock went 3-0 in MEC play and won Class 2A Sectional 38. Overall, the Royals finished 8-5.

Other selections to the All-MEC football team included: North Decatur – Xander Jones, Mason Morris, Kaden Muckerheide, Aiden O’Dell, Cooper Parmer, Kaleb Phelps and Owen Wiseman; Monroe Central – Brylen Case, Izaiah Mangus, Jerimiah Ullom, Julius Ullom, Justus Ullom and Lane Wilson; Shenandoah – Landon Barr, Jacob Brown, Evan Fries, Jarrett Helman and Hayden Hubbard.

Two Royals named to MEC team

Eastern Hancock’s Kaitlyn Lowes and Brooklyn Willis were recently named to the All-Mid-Eastern Conference volleyball team.

With 289 kills, Lowes, a junior, finished seventh in the conference in kills. Willis was 15th (140).

Willis (266) and Lowes (240) were ranked seventh and ninth, respectively, in digs. Lowes tied for eighth in aces with 51.

The Royals finished 6-3 and in fourth place in the 10-team conference. Eastern Hancock was 20-9 overall.

Wapahani (19-9) won the league with a 9-0 record, followed by Wes-Del (25-7, 8-1) and Daleville (20-10, 7-2).

Eastern Hancock finished ahead of Blue River Valley (19-11, 5-4), Cowan (8-19, 3-6), Shenandoah (8-19, 1-5), Monroe Central (11-15, 0-6), Union (0-17, 0-7) and Randolph Southern (2-17, 0-8).

Others selected to the team included: Wapahani – Sophia Beeson, Annemarie Gibson, Emily Luce and Lauren Rich; Wes-Del – Jennah Love, Ella Mauck, and Rachel McGlothlin; Daleville – Trishell Johnson, and Cassidy Rees; Blue River – Maciah Driskell; Cowan – Maycie Martin; Monroe Central – Maggie Haney; Shenandoah – Haley Hughes; Union – Kaitlynn Holderman; Randolph Southern – Tarissa Watson.

Hoop teams receiving votes

Three Hancock County boys basketball teams are receiving votes in the latest Indiana Basketball Coaches Association poll, released Monday.

Greenfield-Central (1-0), Mt. Vernon (0-1) and New Palestine (0-0) were listed, alphabetically, among others receiving votes, just outside the Top 20.

The IBCA poll includes all schools and is not broken down into classification.

Greenfield-Central won its opener last week at Beech Grove. Mt. Vernon lost at No. 20 Lawrence Central. New Palestine opens its season at Eastern Hancock Friday.
