GREENFIELD – Looking for a unique gift for the bookworm on your list?

Several Hancock County residents have recently published their own works on Amazon. Here’s a quick glance at some options, based on publication descriptions:

Youth picture book: “Ritter and Coco’s Rainy Day” written by Greenfield native Kierra Mohr, illustrated by Rama Tampan

“When unexpected weather puts a damper on their picnic plans, Ritter and Coco must use their creativity and imaginations to come up with something new. Help your little one navigate their emotions and positively deal with change in this brightly illustrated, rhyming story of friendship. Perfect for ages 3-5.”

Mohr will release a second Ritter and Coco book in early 2024.

“The Oldest Sport”

Young adult sports drama: “The Oldest Sport” by Greenfield native Evan Myers, who currently lives in New Albany, Ind.

“Alan Martinez isn’t an academic champion, a computer wiz, or a superstar athlete. By all accounts, he is in fact one of the most average teenagers in all of East Hamilton High. But that all changes when Alan stumbles into a wrestling practice one day after school. Before long, Alan joins the team and embarks on an athletic endeavor tougher than anything he could have ever imagined. As he learns the ropes of the world’s oldest sport, this one-time slacker learns the true meaning of grit, self-confidence and determination. And just when he starts to get the hang of wrestling, a new challenge arises… one that seems impossible to overcome. Alan might be a quick learner, but will he be able to dig deep and discover his true potential?

“And We’re Testing Your Son for Down Syndrome”

Adult memoir: “And We’re Testing Your Son for Down Syndrome: The Journey from Diagnosis to Living Joyfully” by New Palestine resident Kathy Jutte

“From the moment Kathy heard the doctor’s casual comment, her life was thrust into the reality of having a special needs child. This is her family’s story of having a son Matthew born with Down syndrome. The fact that she was a special education teacher did not prepare her for the challenges the family would face. Nor the joy that could reside alongside the struggles.

Matt’s story reveals the unique trials of Down syndrome. And alongside it, the treasure of relationships, working, dating—all the normal and sweet things of life. You’ll discover how Matt taught everyone around him to see through the eyes of unconditional love. Many lives were blessed with the birth of Matt and yours will be too. The book also provides references and resources for the reader.”

Book is available on Amazon or directly through the author via text, 765-744-1728 or email [email protected] with subject line “book.”

 “See You Later”

Adult memoir: “See You Later” by Greenfield resident Natalie Mosley Klenotic

Hancock County residents Natalie and Thomas Mosley tragically made front page news in Hancock County in 1993 when Thomas, a Desert Storm veteran, died on board the USS Flint. Natalie and her 16-month-old daughter were onboard when the accident happened; they had stopped by to bring him something during his work day.

“Mosley Klenotic became a Navy widow when she was in her early 20s, when her beloved husband, Tom, was crushed by a weapons elevator while on duty on the US Navy Ship The Flint. But Natalie and Tom’s love … and communication … didn’t end that awful night, just because he suddenly found himself in the great beyond of the afterlife. He called her the night he died, and he has continued to speak to her for the 30 years since his death. It is their incredible love for each other that forever connects them, the same deep love that saved them both from dysfunctional childhoods that they somehow managed to survive together in the Indiana town they grew up in.

In this powerful debut memoir, Natalie shares their story – many times, through the wonderful, heartfelt letters they wrote to each other. It’s a powerful testament to a love story that truly has no ending.”
