Sorority member to be featured in book signing

NEW PALESTINE – Kathy Jutte, a member of the Upsilon chapter of Psi Iota Xi, has published her first book.

Jutte and the Upsilon chapter will host a book signing at the Sugar Creek branch of the Hancock County Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16.

Jutte’s book, titled “And We’re Testing Your Son for Down Syndrome: The Journey from Diagnosis to Living Joyfully,” chronicles her experience as a mother to a special needs child.

From the moment Jutte heard the doctor’s casual comment, her life was thrust into the reality of having a special needs child. This is her family’s story of having a son, Matthew, born with Down syndrome.

The fact that Jutte was a special education teacher did not prepare her for the challenges the family would face, nor the joy that could reside alongside the struggles.

Matt’s story reveals the unique trials of Down syndrome and alongside it, the treasure of relationships, working, dating and more. Readers will discover how Matt taught everyone around him to see through the eyes of unconditional love. The book also provides references and resources for the reader.

Jutte, an Indiana native, graduated from Dunkirk High School and Ball State University with bachelors and masters degrees in Education. She also obtained a special education degree in K-12. She taught 35 years in Ohio and has retired after 37 years of teaching. Her dream was always to write a book about raising a child/young adult with Down syndrome, and her passion is helping parents live a joyful life alongside the diagnosis.
