FORTVILLE — Those behind the annual Treats on Main and FARM Community Fair in Fortville are adding a costume parade to the annual event in downtown Fortville.

The event has had a costume contest in previous years, and will again during this year’s event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 28. Costumes have been a popular part of the event organized by downtown merchants and Fortville Area Resource Mission.

“The costume contest has gone over really well … whole families will dress up,” said Kelly Griffey, board president for FARM. With that in mind, a costume parade is planned for noon on Main Street that day, “just so everybody can see all of the costumes,” she said.

Downtown businesses participate by passing out candy and/or offering specials during the event. About 20 vendors, including food vendors, will also set up shop at the event.

Also, on the Community Fair side, churches and non-profit organizations will set up booths at the event. Churches, many of whom support FARM’s food pantry and other efforts, will offer a treat and/or a game to play. Non-profits will share information about how to volunteer or how to find help if you have a need.

“We’ve gotten some really good feedback” on the opportunity for groups to spread the word about their work, Griffey said. “They’ve been able to recruit new volunteers because of that.”
