Benefit 5K coming to Southeastway Park

INDIANAPOLIS – A Bee the Light 5K is coming up, honoring Shelby Kraft who passed away in 2022.

The event is set for 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 14 at Southeastway Park, 5624 S. Carroll Road, Indianapolis. Proceeds will be donated to the International Rett Syndrome Foundation; Rett Syndrome is an incurable neurological disorder, primarily affecting girls and women, which can lead to significant disability.

Shelby Kraft is the namesake for Kindness Delivered, a faith-based mobile ministry that delivers acts of kindness. Sponsorships are also available. Registration is $35; price increases after Sept. 13. For more, visit kindnessdelivered.org/beethelight.

Vendors needed for Trunk or Treat

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Parks and Recreation is seeking vendors for its annual Trunk or Treat event.

The event will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. There is no fee to participate; businesses and organizations are invited to join and be prepared with candy for 1,500 to 2,000 community members. For an application or questions, email [email protected] or call 317-477-4340.

Food distribution program at MVHS

FORTVILLE – The Gleaners/Mt. Vernon food bank is available at Mt. Vernon High School.

The drive-through style food pantry distributes dry, non-perishable food, meat and more to districts in the Mt. Vernon district twice a month. Cars should line up at Door 20 of the school, 8112 N. 200W., Fortville.

Upcoming dates include 4-6 p.m. Sept. 26; 4-6 p.m. Oct. 17; 9-11 a.m. Oct. 31 and 9-11 a.m. Nov. 14. Visit mvcsc.k12.in.us/community/gleanersmvcsc-food-pantry for details.

Recycle event Sept. 30

GREENFIELD – Recycle hazardous waste, electronics, tires, latex paint and shred documents at an upcoming Fall Collection Event hosted by Recycle Hancock County.

The event is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m Sept. 30 at Elanco, 2500 Innovation way, Greenfield. Fees apply: hazardous waste is $5 per carload; electronics, $5 per carload with some additional fees; document shredding, $3 per box; tires, $4.50 off rim or $5 and up on; Latex paint $1 per quart, $2 per gallon or $5 for a five-gallon bucket. The event is for Hancock County residents only, no businesses. Credit cards and cash are accepted. Pharmaceuticals are collected for free.
