Benefit car show, fish fry Saturday

GREENFIELD – Mt. Comfort Church will host its seventh annual car show and fish fry Saturday, Sept. 23.

The events raise money for Lighthouse Student Ministries, for the church’s youth group to attend a mission trip next summer.

The car show is from noon to 3 p.m. with registration at $20 per car; non-judged registration is $5 per car.

The fish fry is 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with $12 per meal pre-order by Sept. 21. Meal includes hand-battered cod, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, dessert and drink. Day-of-event price is $14.

CASA Dine to Donate today

GREENFIELD – Hancock County Friends of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will benefit from a dining event today.

Leo’s Market and Eatery will host a Dine to Donate event from 3-7 p.m. today, Sept. 20 at both the Greenfield and McCordsville store locations. Twenty percent of all Eatery purchases will benefit Friends of Hancock County CASA and its Dream Big! Program for children in the court system.

Local libraries offer programs for children

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several events for children and teens are coming up in the month of October at local libraries.

Preschool children ages 4-5 can take part in a Little Artists group Oct. 3 at the Sugar Creek branch of the Hancock County Public Library in New Palestine. Children in grades 1-5 can make haunted house crafts at the Greenfield HCPL Oct. 11. A pajama party with nighttime stories will be in New Palestine Oct. 11.

Teens are invited to a National Pizza Month celebration Oct. 5 at the Greenfield branch or a pizza party Oct. 3 in New Palestine. There are also teen book clubs and writing clubs available.

Events for all ages include Kasey the Fire Dog in both New Palestine and Greenfield Oct. 12; and pumpkin decorating Oct. 10 in New Palestine or Oct. 16 in Greenfield. Visit hcplibrary.org for details or to sign up.

At the Vernon Township Public Library in Fortville, Bentley’s Buddies dogs will be available to read to Oct. 21. There is a Play & Learn Storytime for all ages each Wednesday morning, as well as a Homeschool STEAM Club Oct. 27 and Bookworms Middle Grade Book Club Oct. 23. “Literary Painted Pumpkins” is Oct. 3 with character options like Pete the Cat, Scooby Doo or Harry Potter to paint; all materials and the pumpkin will be provided by the VTPL.
