The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection reports.

June 1

Wendy’s

2809 N. 600W., Greenfield

Violations found: C – employee observed touching utensil handle used in ready-to-eat food preparation area after contaminating food handling gloves with raw meat, corrected; NC – some grease/grime build-up under fryers, fry holding table and drive-through register table, to be corrected by June 30.

June 5

McDonald’s

2290 N. 600W., Greenfield

Violations found: NC – ice build-up in walk-in freezer, to be corrected by June 30; NC – plumbing is leaking at mop sink, to be corrected by June 30.

Violations found: C – ham that is portioned needs to be date marked, corrected; NC – some debris on floors in corners, under three-compartment sink, behind grill and in dry foods storage area, to be corrected by July 1; C, R – cannot have direct connection of sewer line at three-compartment sink, to be corrected by July 1.

Eagle 2 Petroleum LLC

407 Main St., Shirley

Violations found: NC – need more light over three-compartment sink, to be corrected by July 1; NC – ice scoop needs to be stored in protected manner, to be corrected by July 1; NC, R – flooring in area where ice machine is located is in disrepair, to be corrected by July 1; NC – walk-in cooler has mold/dirt accumulation on floors under racks and on ceiling, to be corrected by July 1.

Violation found: C – employee observed not changing gloves/washing hands after touching mop and before returning to food prep line, corrected.

Violations found: NC – permit issued by Hancock County Health Department needs to be displayed in public view, to be corrected by June 17; C, R – pizza products in window using time as a public health control did not have timers set, corrected; C, R – marinara sauce in hot-holding did not reach a temperature of 135 degrees,corrected; NC, R – ice build-up in walk-in freezer, to be corrected by June 17; NC, R – floors in kitchen under three-compartment sink and in customer area have debris build-up, to be corrected by June 17; NC – debris build-up on table where soda machine are, to be corrected by June 17; C – R – expired packaged food product in reach-in cooler, corrected; C – one wrap and one chicken sandwich do not have date marks, corrected; C – there must be a designated person in charge present during all hours of operation, to be corrected by June 17.

Violations found: C – need to have employee with food manager certification, to be corrected by July 31; NC, R – walls on each side of grill/fryer area are in disrepair, to be corrected by July 31; NC – need to provide paper towels at hand sinks, corrected; NC – some lights in kitchen are not working, to be corrected by July 31; NC – legs of table going into kitchen are broken, to be corrected by July 31; C – some areas of ground meat on hot-holding table not above 135 degrees, corrected.

Violations found: NC – repair/replace material lining walk-in chicken cooler, metal liner is coming away from wall and is deteriorating, mop sink area has damages, tile coving and flooring is coming off, to be corrected by June 28; NC – fixture coming off water softener is leaking, to be corrected by June 28.
