Kyle Gibson got in trouble in the seventh inning and suffered his first loss of the season.

The Greenfield native and 35-year right-handed pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles was the losing pitcher in the O’s 6-0 loss, on the road, against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday.

An 11-year MLB veteran, Gibson dropped to 4-1 on the season.

In Wednesday’s outing, he went 6 2/3 innings and gave up 10 hits and six earned runs. He did not have a strikeout or a walk.

Gibson and the O’s trailed just 2-0 after six innings, but the Royals were able to score four times in the seventh.

Kansas City scored a run on a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly to take a 3-0 lead. With two outs, the Royals got a pair of big hits to end Gibson’s night. Kyle Isbel had an RBI-double and Bobby Witt, Jr., followed with a run-scoring triple.

Gibson is one of the winningest pitchers in baseball this season. He was going for his fifth win, which would have tied him for second in the majors. Tampa Bay’s Shane McClanahan has six. Gerrit Cole (Yankees), Clayton Kershaw (Dodgers) and Joe Ryan (Twins) each have five.

This season the 2006 Greenfield-Central graduate, in seven starts, is 4-1 with a 4.61 ERA. In 41 innings, he has 27 strikeouts, 11 walks, and has given up 44 hits.

His next start is scheduled for Monday, in Baltimore, against McClanahan and the Rays.

Tampa Bay is on top of the American League East Division standings and have a five-game lead over second-place Baltimore.
