Mt. Vernon’s softball team used a four-run sixth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit and defeat Fishers 6-3 at home on Thursday.

Lexi Beeler tied things up with a solo home run in the sixth, before an Easton Wampler three-run home run gave the Marauders the lead.

Wampler led the Marauders, going 2-for-2 with a home run and five RBIs. Shelby Rakosky finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Amya Gary added a double for the Marauders and Drew Fithian added a hit and scored the other Marauders run.

In the circle, Victoria Jenson pitched four innings, allowed one unearned run and struck out five. Graci Hines threw the other three innings and gave up two runs on two hits.

The Marauders moved to 8-7 on the season. They face off against Greenfield-Central tonight at 7 p.m.

Eastern postponed

Eastern Hancock’s Mid-Eastern Conference softball game scheduled to be played at Randolph Southern Thursday was postponed.

The Royals are back in action Monday at Heritage Christian.

Baseball

Cougars bounce back with win over LC

Greenfield-Central defeated Lawrence Central 11-2 on the road Thursday.

Coming off a pair of Hoosier Heritage Conference losses, the Cougars were led by Grant Shepherd , who was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Karson Gantt added two hits and two RBIs. Landon Brooks knocked in two runs and Alex Sanchez led the Cougars with three runs scored.

On the mound, Parker Rhodes and Luke Willett allowed just three hits and struck out 11 combined batters.

The Cougars moved to 9-5-1 on the season.

Royals drop MEC matchup

Two late runs weren’t enough for the Eastern Hancock baseball team in an 8-6 loss at Randolph Southern Thursday.

Eastern Hancock grabbed a 4-3 lead after one inning, but the Rebels scored the next five.

Caleb Retherford, Chase Stewart, Jalen Helderbrand and Carson Borden all notched an RBI for Eastern.

The Royals dropped to 4-9 and 2-5 in the Mid-Eastern Conference.

Boys golf

EH grabs win over Cambridge City

Eastern Hancock’s boys golf team defeated Cambridge City 185-197 on Thursday.

Ronnie Johnson and Corey Leece shot 45 to lead the Royals.

The Royals are off until the Hancock County Tournament next Wednesday at Hawk’s Tail Golf Course.

New Pal defeats Beech Grove

New Palestine’s boys golf team defeated Beech Grove, 185-222 Thursday.

The Dragons were led by Josiah Kissel with a 43.

New Palestine travels to Cathedral Saturday.

Girls tennis

MV picks up conference win over Yorktown

Mt. Vernon’s girls tennis team defeated the visiting Yorktown Tigers 4-1 Thursday, in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match at home.

The Marauders swept the two doubles matches and won at both No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

At No. 2 singles, Regan Ralstin won 6-3, 6-3. Maria Downs won by the same score at No. 3 singles.

In doubles, the Marauders dropped just one game. Kim Joubert and Carmen Lugo won 6-0, 6-0, while Addy Lockwood and Sophie Maxwell won 6-0, 6-1.

Mt. Vernon travels to Centerville today.

Cougars sweep in HHC matchup

Greenfield-Central’s girls tennis team won 5-0 in a road Hoosier Heritage Conference match at New Castle Thursday.

Dragons fall in straight sets

New Palestine’s boys volleyball team lost 3-0 at Whiteland Thursday.

The Dragons dropped sets by scores of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-21.

The Dragons sit at 8-10 on the season and are back in action Tuesday at Cardinal Ritter.
