School supply drive underway

MCCORDSVILLE – A school supply drive for next school year is already starting up. Blue Angel Connect is collecting school supplies for a backpack giveaway for the 2023-24 school year. The backpacks and supplies wll be given to Hancock County elementary school students who would otherwise struggle to purchase them. Visit blueangelconnect.org for a link to the wish list to purchase items online; the items will be sent directly to Blue Angel Connect to be organized and distributed. The drive will continue through July 7.

Lorsung named to dean’s list

NEW PALESTINE – Grace Lorsung of New Palestine was named to the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s List for the Fall 2022 semester. The list honors those who earn a grade point average of at least 3.6 while taking 12 or more credit hours of courses. The University is located in Lexington, Ky.

EH Bands to have Culvers fundraiser

GREENFIELD – Eastern Hancock Bands will benefit from a Dine to Donate event coming up.

Culvers in Greenfield will donate a portion of proceeds to the band program. The event is 5-8 p.m. today, April 25 at the restaurant, 1846 N. State St., Greenfield. No flier is needed to support the event.

Summer camp signups open

NEW PALESTINE – Registration is now open for Southern Hancock’s summer enrichment programs for children.

The school corporation is offering 18 unique learning opportunities in a variety of subjects this June and July. Topics include Camp Invention for science and technology; a Magic Tree House book and building course; a summer space camp; kindergarten readiness; cooking camp; bookmaking and more.

Nationwide student art competition announced

COLUMBUS – U.S.Congressman Greg Pence shared details recently of a nationwide high school arts competition, sponsored by members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Artistic Discovery Contest is open to all high school students in Idniana’s sixth congressional district, which includes Hancock County. The winning work of the district’s competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capital., alongside winning artwork from districts across the country. The winner will also receive two round-trip tickets to Washington D.C. to attend a reception and meet Pence.

The deadline to submit artwork is May 5. Artwork may be up to 26 by 26 inches, and may be up to 4 inches in depth, but must not weigh more than 15 pounds. Art must be original in concept, design and execution and can be paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, photography or computer-generated art. Ivy Tech enrollment event today

GREENFIELD – Tuesday at the Tech will show prospective students what Ivy Tech has to offer.

The event, set for 6-7:30 p.m. today, April 25, will be centered around a presentation showing students the enrollment process and the academic and career opportunities the institution offers. After the presentation, students will be able to meet with academic programs to learn more and talk with staff about Ivy Tech. The event will be at Hancock Regional Health, 801 N. State St., Greenfield.
