GREENFIELD – Overdue fines through the Hancock County Public Library will be forgiven the week of April 23-29.

The HCPL, which has branches in Greenfield and New Palestine, announced Fine Forgiveness Week with “no strings attached.” The program includes pre-existing fines, not just fines accumulated on currently checked-out items. In honor of National Library Week, the event is designed to invite patrons back who may be worried or embarrassed about fines; normally, checkout access is blocked after an account has more than $5 in fines.

Residents can take advantage of the event by going to either library location and showing their library card or registering for a new card. Fine removal applies to all library materials including books, magazines, DVDs and video games. Items must have been returned for fines to be removed. Visit hcplibrary.org for more; the library is located at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield and 5731 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine.
