Mt. Vernon improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 5-0 victory over visiting Shelbyville Thursday.

The Marauders won all but three games in their singles matches.

At No. 1, Kylie Brandes won 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2, Ava Lusby was victorious 6-1, 6-0. Maria Downs won, at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0.

The two Mt. Vernon doubles teams won in straight sets.

At No. 1, Carmen Lugo and Kimberly Joubert won 6-3, 7-5. At No. 2, Addy Lockwood and Sophie Maxwell won 6-1, 7-5.

Mt. Vernon hosts the Mt. Vernon Invitational Saturday.

EH netters defeat New Castle

On Wednesday, Eastern Hancock’s girls tennis team defeated New Castle 3-2.

Tori Parker won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Lexi Swauger was up 3-0, at No. 3, and won by injury default.

The Royals got their third win from the No. 1 doubles team of Savanah Hardin and Mikayla Hardy, 6-0, 6-1.

Eastern Hancock was scheduled to play Thursday against Rushville.

Dragons fall to Roncalli

New Palestine’s girls tennis team lost 4-1 at Roncalli on Wednesday.

New Palestine is 2-1 on the season.

Courtney Johnson, at No. 3 singles, had the lone victory, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles.

New Palestine hosts Greenwood Monday.

Boys track and field

NP, Greenwood battle to tie

New Palestine’s boys track and field team tied Greenwood and defeated Perry Meridian in a home meet Thursday.

The Dragons and Woodmen each scored 80 points. The Falcons had six.

Individual winners for the Dragons were, Isaiah Thacker (200), Jake Cooper (3200), Paxton Holmes (110 hurdles), James O’Dell (300 hurdles, long jump) and Sage Halter (pole vault).

The 4×100-meter relay team of O’Dell, Eian Roudebush, Halter and Thacker tied for the second best time in school history at 43.84 seconds.

The 4×800 relay team of Cooper, Gavin Smith, Danny Davis and Cody Crawmer were victorious.

New Palestine will compete next at Lawrence Central Tuesday.

Girls track and field

New Palestine beats Greenwood, Perry

New Palestine’s girls’ track and field team won a three-team meet, at home, Thursday.

The Dragons scored 92.5 points to Greenwood’s 62 and Perry Meridian’s 12.5

Individual winners for New Palestine included, Taylor Burke (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Sydney Miller (discus), Quin Lumbley (shot put), and Abby Journay (100, 200, high jump).

New Palestine added wins from the 400 relay team of Reagan Seal, Olivia Frank, Alaina Doran and Journay.

For the second straight meet, New Palestine got 1-2 finishes in the 1600 relay race with groups that included Anne Bauer, McKenzie Hacker, Courtney Study, Shaylee Frank, Olivia Frank, Journay, Tylar Whitaker and Rylee Hurst.

Becca Johnson cleared 10-feet in the pole vault to move up to No. 3 on the school’s all-time list.

New Palestine will compete next at Lawrence Central Tuesday.

Softball

Royals remain unbeaten in MEC play

Eastern Hancock won 15-2 at Cowan Thursday to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the Mid-Eastern Conference.

The Royals finished the game in the sixth with an eight-run inning.

Emma Bolding had two home runs and three RBIs. Sammie Bolding had a home run and five RBIs.

Kaylee Kline had three hits, including a double. Brooklyn Willis and Lilli Ringer each had two hits.

Pitcher Madison Stephens struck out nine and did not give up an earned run.

Eastern is home to Knightstown today in a makeup contest of a game postponed earlier in the year due to inclement weather.

Baseball

Royals lose conference game

Eastern Hancock dropped a 16-5 decision at Cowan Thursday to fall to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the Mid-Eastern Conference.

Cowan got off to a big start with eight first-inning runs.

For the Royals, Chase Stewart and Colton Dishman each had two hits. CJ Titara had a home run.

The Royals welcome Knightstown for a 10 a.m. contest Saturday.
