Bunny bound: Free community egg hunts, events to celebrate Easter

HANCOCK COUNTY – From photos with the Easter Bunny to a live re-enactment of the resurrection story, free family events abound in the coming weeks to celebrate the season.

Here’s a look at upcoming Easter celebrations open to the public. While all of the events listed here are free, some require pre-registration.

April 1

Inclusive Egg Hunt, 10 a.m., Greenfield-Central High School, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield. The event will take place during the G-CHS Spring Bazaar and is sponsored by Families United for Support and Encouragement (FUSE) and Greenfield-Cetral’s FCCLA. All ages and siblings are welcome. Easter Bunny photos and donut holes, 10 a.m. to noon, Cynthia’s Hallmark & Boutique, 1584 N. State St., Greenfield; bring your own camera/device for photos.

Community Easter Egg Hunt, 10 a.m., Mt. Comfort Church, 3179 N. 600 W., Greenfield. Event will feature age-group hunts, crafts, door prizes and the Easter story. For more, visit MtComfortChurch.com.

Eggstravaganza, 10 a.m. to noon, New Palestine Bible Church, 5954 W. 300S., New Palestine; event features games, crafts, an egg hunt, food truck and Easter storytime.

Community Helicopter Easter Egg Drop, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Fortville Nazarene Church, 701 S. Maple St., Fortville. Free event includes six craft locations, Easter Bunny photo booth, food and more. An egg hunt for children 2 years and younger will be at 12:30 p.m., followed by the helicopter dropping eggs at 1 p.m. in the back field. Three age groups will hunt eggs in marked locations, and there will be four identical prize tables outside for children to choose a prize from. Vendors will be on site with food to purchase. Fortville Easter Bunny Diaper Drive, 1-3 p.m., Memorial Park, 400 W. Church St., Fortville. Event is sponsored by Holmes Family Insurance and includes a free picture with the Easter Bunny and an Easter egg goodie bag at the Memorial Park Shelter House in Fortville. Participants are encouraged to bring a donation of diapers that will go to Hancock County families in need, through The Villages of Hancock County.

April 2

Easter Egg Hunt, 2 p.m., Greenfield Elks, 820 S. State St., Greenfield; hunt is for children of all ages.

April 7-8

Journey to Easter, live walk-through depiction of the life of Jesus Christ, including his miracles, cross, tomb and resurrection. Event is at Bethel Baptist church, 1620 S. State St., Greenfield. Reserve free tickets at eventbrite.com; time slots are available from 4-8 p.m. April 7, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 8.

April 8

Easter Egg Hunt, 9 a.m., Park Chapel Christian Church, 1176 E. McKenzie Road, Greenfield; event for ages 1 to sixth grade.

Easter Egg Hunt, 10 a.m., Riley Park, 280 Apple St., Greenfield. Free event is hosted by Bradley United Methodist Church; children of all ages can hunt for thousands of Easter eggs filled with candy and small trinkets.

Breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt, 10 a.m., Greenfield First Church of the Nazarene, 1980 S. State St., Greenfield. Free event features pictures with the Easter Bunny, crafts, games, prizes and an egg hunt at 11 a.m.

Easter Egg Hunt, 10 a.m., Brown’s Chapel Wesleyan Church, 994 N. 600 E., Greenfield.
