Bessie O’Neal (Walden) Kerr, 82 of Greenfield, passed away on Thursday, March, 16, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on May 5, 1940, in Monroe County, Kentucky to John Tom Walden &Nova Clara (Birch) Walden. Bessie married the love of her life, Richard Hall Kerr on April 5, 1957, in Celina, Tennessee.

Bessie spent her working years at both RCA from 1959-1968, followed by U.S. Naval Avionics in Indianapolis where she retired in June of 1977. Bessie was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Greenfield. Bessie was a strong woman of faith and since 1971 she has been a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Fortville, where she has been a past treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and played the piano. Bessie was a founding member of the Kerr Family Singers since 1970.

Bessie is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Richard H. Kerr of Greenfield; son, Wm. Mark Kerr (Debbie) of Shirley; daughter, Brenda A. Kerr of Indianapolis; brothers, Don (Jean) Walden, Bobby (Judy) Walden, David (Frances) Walden, Danny (Genene) Walden, and Billy Walden; sister, Wanda Wade; grandchildren, Wm. Mark Kerr II (Cassie); Ryan A. Hooten; Aaron R. Hooten (Sarah); five great-grandchildren, Bessie M. Kerr, William Hall, Jaxson Hooten, Gunner Hooten, and Remi Hooten. Bessie is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lena Miller; brothers, John Walden, James Walden, Wm. Ronald Walden; and great-grandson, Wm. Mark Kerr III.

Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, March 20, 2023, at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US HWY 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 1:00pm at the mortuary. Pastor Mark Kerfoot will be officiating. Burial will follow the service at Park Cemetery, 621 S. State St., Greenfield, IN 46140.
