New Pal swimmers finish with four wins

In a pair of triangular meets at the New Palestine Natatorium Monday and Tuesday, the New Palestine High School boys swimming and diving team collected four victories.

On Monday, the Dragons defeated Roncalli (83-18) and Greenwood (71-30).

On Tuesday, they were winners against Shelbyville (73-29) and Lawrence Central (80-22).

It was the team’s final competition until the New Palestine Sectional Feb. 16, 18.

Against the Royals and Woodmen, the Dragons won nine of 12 events.

New Palestine swept the relays.

Opening with the 200-yard medley relay, Dawson Lynch, Aidan Kingery, Liam Fuller and Chase Martin recorded the first win with a time of 1:51.30.

In other relays, Dontae Thompson, Lynch, Fuller and Martin won the 200 freestyle in 1:37.81. In the 400 freestyle relay to close out the meet, James Watson, Ashton Turner, Ian Erwin and Thompson won in 3:45.48.

Individually, the Dragons got victories from Thompson (200 freestyle, 2:03.60), Erwin (50 freestyle, 24.31 seconds), Aidan Stephens (1-meter diving, 163.35 points), Watson (100 freestyle, 54.82 seconds), Karter McNeil (500 freestyle, 5:40.19) and Kingery (100 breaststroke, 1:09.04).

Against LC and Shelbyville on Tuesday, Lynch (200 freestyle, 2:00.93), Blake Hurst (200 IM, 2:22.89), Stephens (1-meter diving, 177.55) and Watson (500 freestyle, 5:40.19) had individual wins.

The Dragons won a pair of relays.

In the 200 freestyle relay race, Lynch, Turner, Jake Myers and Fuller won in 1:41.38. In the 400 freestyle relay, Watson, Kingery, Fuller and Martin won in 3:44.31.
