HANCOCK COUNTY – Kids came to the Hancock County Public Library pretty ordinary, but left as superheroes.

Or at least with a confidence boost and looking the part after a superhero training session with “All Powerful Cyclone” – otherwise known as children’s librarian Leah Bennett.

The event, Jan. 19 at the main branch of the HCPL, is among many coming up in the next few weeks to keep patrons of all ages busy this winter season.

Children decorated their own masks and capes, trained their super powers of x-ray vision and spidey senses, and raced through an obstacle course of fire and rocks. This was all while being referred to by their new superhero name, from Secret Fox to Magnificent Fruit Loops.

While libraries have programs year-round, their ability to attract families in the winter months is unique as an indoor recreation spot for the community. Winter reading clubs start in February at Greenfield and New Palestine, while the Fortville library has already started a Monopoly-style club. All three libraries will be hosting book discussions, art events, concerts and more.

Here’s a look at upcoming events at the community’s libraries. For more information and to register, visit the websites.
