Greenfield-Central’s boys wrestling team defeated Eastern Hancock 54-14 Thursday at Eastern Hancock High School.

Along with three wins by forfeit, the Cougars had wins by fall from Lincoln Parsons (113), Kannon Zuber (138), Cohen Hager (145), Isaiah Holden (152), John Ubelhor (160) and Clay Guenin (170).

For Eastern Hancock, Zayne Badgley (126) and Brayden Tincher (182) each won by sudden victory. Gabe Sotelo (120) and Cameron Volz (132) won by major decisions.

On Tuesday, Eastern Hancock defeated Knightstown 60-24.

New Pal loses to LN

New Palestine’s boys wrestling team lost at Lawrence North Wednesday, 41-34.

The Dragons won six matches, five were by fall.

Winning by pin were, Tyler Lavin (126), Bryce Doss (120), Cole Vandygriff (113), Gunner Butt (106) and Shaun Glass (195). Colin Whetsel (192) won by major decision.

The Dragons will compete Saturday in the Hoosier Heritage Conference championships at New Castle.

Boys swimming

Dragons win every event against Beech Grove

New Palestine’s boys swimming and diving team defeated Beech Grove 151-12 Tuesday at the New Palestine Natatorium.

The Dragons won all 12 events.

Along with sweeping the three relays, Dontae Thompson won both the 200-yard IM (2:24.41) and 100 backstroke (1:09.92).

In relay races, Liam Fuller, Reese Cox, Thompson and Luke Bartusek won the 200 medley (1:59.47). Aidan Stephens, Karter McNeil, Jake Myers and Fuller were first in the 200 freestyle (1:48.14) and Thompson, Aidan Kingery, Blake Hurst and Fuller won the 400 freestyle (3:47.34).

Other individual winners included, Cox (200 freestyle, 2:09.54), Dawson Lynch (50 freestyle, 24.72 seconds), Stephens (1-meter diving, 164.25 points), Ian Erwin (100 butterfly, 1:05.77), Myers (100 freestyle, 56.88 seconds), Ashton Turner (500 freestyle, 6:14.37) and James Watson (100 breaststroke, 1:16.09).

New Palestine swims and dives against Connersville, at home, on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Marauders sweep

Mt. Vernon’s boys swimming and diving team defeated Brebeuf and Heritage Christian at the Mt. Vernon pool Tuesday.

The Marauders defeated Brebeuf 54-47 and Heritage Christian 76-23.

Individual winners for the Marauders included, the 200-yard medley relay team of Adison Mayes, Eli Webster, Matthew Garey and Ethan Murphy (1:46.06), Murphy (200 freestyle, 1:59.85; 100 backstroke, 59.16 seconds), Brady Gray (200 IM, 2:02.97; 100 freestyle, 49.15 seconds), Braden Thomas (1-meter diving, 155.90), Garey (100 breaststroke, 1:04.11) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Garey, Gray, Mayes and Murphy (3:27.01).

Mt. Vernon returns to action Thursday, Jan. 19 at Pendleton Heights.

Girls swimming

Dragons dominate Hornets

New Palestine’s girls swimming and diving team downed Beech Grove 135-42 Tuesday at the New Palestine Natatorium.

The Dragons won all three relays and 10 events total.

Olivia Melangton was an individual double-winner by taking home the top prize in the 200-yard freestyle (2:28.86) and 100 backstroke (1:23.08) races.

Adrianna Huston, Lillie Abernathy, Katelyn Trimpe and Kyleigh Turner won the 200 medley relay (2:10.25). Trimpe, Claire Lake, Melangton and Cadyn Brown won the 200 freestyle relay (1:58.95) and Chloe Siler, Lake, Rachel Hamilton and Sullie Leavell won the 400 freestyle relay (4:17.18).

Other individual winners for the Dragons were, Huston (50 freestyle, 27.52 seconds), Ava Tuley (1-meter diving, 154.15 points), Trimpe (100 butterfly, 1:18.41), Siler (100 freestyle, 1:03.65) and Leavell (500 freestyle, 6:11.07).

New Palestine swims and dives against Connersville, at home, on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Marauders split

Mt. Vernon’s girls swimming and diving team split meets with Brebeuf Jesuit and Heritage Christian Tuesday at the Mt. Vernon pool.

The Marauders defeated Heritage Christian 65-37 and lost to Brebeuf 57.44.

Winners for Mt. Vernon included, Calista Smith (200-yard IM, 2:28.64), Catherine Hiner (50 freestyle, 28.45 seconds), Riley Nielsen (1-meter diving, 207.30 points), and the 200 freestyle relay team of Sophie Martin, Anna Hiner, Emme Grubbs and Smith (1:53.11).

Mt. Vernon returns to action Thursday, Jan. 19 at Pendleton Heights.

Gymnastics

New Pal wins opener

New Palestine’s gymnastics team opened its season with a victory at Connersville. The Dragons beat the Spartans 97.475 to 88.2.

The Dragons took the top four spots in the all-around competition.

Sophomore JJ Fee won with 33.25 points. She won three individual events with best scores on balance beam (7.55), uneven bars (8.475) and floor exercise (9.175).

Olivia Frank was second (31.675). Addy Kendall placed third (31.225) and Lynzie Stiller was fourth (30.975).

The Dragons return to action Thursday, Jan. 19 against Shelbyville, Waldron and Lutheran at the Gymnastics Company in Wanamaker.
