FORTVILLE
Carl Alan Helms, 85, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023, in Noblesville. He was born August 26, 1937, in Fortville, Indiana to Carl and Irene (Wiseheart) Helms. Al was a 1955 graduate of Fortville High School and a 1959 graduate of the Indiana University School of Business.
He spent his entire working life in the family insurance and real estate business. He was active in many professional, civic, social and charitable organizations. A lifelong Republican, he was elected to the Indiana Senate in 1966, representing Hancock, Madison, and Henry Counties. In 1974, he was appointed to the Indiana Ethics Commission and served 10 years under both the Bowen and Orr Administrations. In the 1990’s he was elected Chairman of the Hancock County Republican Party and served for 5 years before retiring.
Survivors include his children Linda (Earl) Lamson, Bradley (Brandy) Helms, Beth (Bob) Willson and eight grandchildren, Alyssa Lamson, Drew Divin, Elizabeth Divin, Cassidy Helms, Addison Helms, Aly Willson, Graydon Willson and Ava Willson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah and parents, listed above.
