G-C wins HHC for second straight year

For the second straight year and fourth time in the last five, Greenfield-Central’s girls swimming and diving team are Hoosier Heritage Conference champions.

The Cougars won the two-day eight-team event Friday at the New Palestine Natatorium.

Greenfield-Central won handily with 474 points. Delta was second with 282. Mt. Vernon placed fourth (247) and New Palestine finished seventh (234).

The Cougars had multiple conference champions.

Alyssa Osborn, Norah Johnson, Mary Ellen Stratman and Rachel Stutz opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:49.91). Cecelia Duffy-Johnson followed with a victory in the 200 freestyle (1:59.02). She also won the 500 freestyle (5:21.55).

Johnson won the 100 freestyle (52.95) and 100 breaststroke (1:06.14).

Osborn added a victory in the 200 IM (2:12.04). Stutz won the 50 freestyle (25.26 seconds). Stratman finished first in the 100 butterfly (59.72 seconds).

Johnson, Stutz, Osborn and Duffy-Johnson won the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.25) and Duffy-Johnson, Reagan Crouch, Selah Vahle and Stratman won the 400 freestyle relay (3:46.02).

The Cougars won 10 of 11 swimming events.

The boys swimming and diving championship is today with action at the New Palestine Natatorium beginning at 9 a.m.
