Eastern Hancock’s girls basketball team improved to 7-0 in Mid-Eastern Conference play and 13-3 overall with a 47-40 win at Blue River Valley Tuesday.

Blue River is 12-4 and 4-2 in the conference.

The Royals have just two conference games remaining, at Daleville (2-11, 0-6) on Jan. 19 and home against Randolph Southern (10-3, 4-2) on Jan. 24.

Against Blue River, Grace Stapleton led the way with 16 points. She had 13 in the second half, including three 3-pointers. She had four treys for the game.

Sammie Bolding had three 3’s and went 4 of 4 at the line for 13 points. Emma Bolding and Ruby White each scored six. Seven of Eastern Hancock’s 12 field goals were 3-pointers. The Royals also hit 16 of 20 free throws.

Eastern Hancock jumped out to a 16-8 first-quarter lead, but had just a 33-32 advantage going in to the final quarter.

The Royals went 9 of 11 at the charity stripe in the fourth period.

Eastern travels to Union County next Tuesday.

G-C Cougars stays hot

Greenfield-Central’s girls basketball team won for the seventh time in the last eight ballgames and improved to 10-7 on the season with a 45-36 victory at Perry Meridian Tuesday.

Trailing after the first quarter, the Cougars outscored the Falcons 14-8 in the second.

Brooklyn McConnell had a game-high 14 points. She had 11 in the second half and hit 6 of 6 at the free-throw line in the final period.

As a team, the Cougars were 11 of 12 at the stripe in the fourth quarter and 17 of 20 for the game.

Aryana Hibbard scored 12 points. Chaney Brown added eight.

The Cougars are back in action Jan. 13 with a Hoosier Heritage Conference game at New Castle.

Girls swimming

Cougars win convincingly

Greenfield-Central’s girls swimming and diving team defeated visiting Greenwood 129-54 Tuesday at the G-C pool.

The Cougars won 11 of 12 events, including all three relays.

Alyssa Osborn, Norah Johnson, Mary Ellen Stratman and Rachel Stutz combined to win the meet’s opening event, the 200-yard medley relay. Johnson, Stutz, Osborn and Cecelia Duffy-Johnson won the 200 freestyle relay. Duffy-Johnson, Reagan Crouch, Selah Vahle and Stratman won the 400 free relay.

Individual winners included, Duffy-Johnson (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Osborn (200 IM), Stutz (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Avery Davis (1-meter diving), and Johnson (100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke).

The Cougars compete in the Hoosier Heritage Conference Meet Thursday (diving) and Friday (swimming) at New Palestine.

Boys swimming

G-C defeats Greenwood

Greenfield-Central’s boys swimming and diving team defeated visiting Greenwood 112-62 Tuesday at the G-C pool.

The Cougars won 10 of 12 events including a pair of relays.

Greenfield-Central’s team of Aiden Michael, Colten Mayberry, Tyler Swango and Alex Jahrsdoerfer won the 200-yard medley relay. Swango, Jaeden Peters, Michael and Mayberry won the 400 freestyle relay.

Individual winners were, Peters (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Jahrsdoerfer (50 freestyle, 1-meter diving), Michael (200 IM, 100 backstroke), and Mayberry (100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke).

The Cougars compete in the Hoosier Heritage Conference Meet Saturday at New Palestine.
