PLAINFIELD — New Palestine senior Isabella Gizzi scored 34 points, but the Dragons girls basketball team fell short of winning Friday’s championship game of the Plainfield Winter Classic.

Down by one point, 45-44 heading into the final quarter, New Palestine lost 60-53 to Roncalli (10-3).

The Dragons are 8-8 on the season.

Gizzi had 17 points in each half. She was one point shy of her season high, 35, scored in a Hoosier Heritage Conference win earlier this month against Shelbyville. Her career high was set last season, 40 points, in a victory over Southport.

Against the Royals, Vivian Miller added 10 points.

New Palestine got to the championship game with a 52-46 win Friday morning over host Plainfield.

Gizzi led the Dragons with 26 points. She had 19 in the second half, including three 3s and 6 of 6 free throws.

Allie Blum had 10 points and got the Dragons off to a good start with eight points, including a pair of treys, in the first quarter.

Down two points at halftime, New Palestine outscored Plainfield (5-9) 17-8 in the third period.

The Dragons return to action Jan. 10 at Triton Central.
