Doris Wanda Thompson, “Dottie”, was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother during her incredible 80 years of life. She passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, December 7, 2022, after suffering with dementia for nearly 5 years.
Dottie was born the youngest of eleven children in Stanley Virginia on July 2, 1942. She attended elementary and high school in Stanley, Virginia. She was a distinguished career Federal Civil Service employee specializing in contract administration. Following her retirement, she started a small art and photo framing shop. Friends and family were always happy to receive bespoke framed gifts for their special occasions. This will be one of the many thoughtful reminders we will all have of Dottie.
Dottie was a devoted and dedicated wife, mother, and friend. She was a gifted writer and storyteller and could capture your imagination like no other. Her smile and laugh were contagious. She was courageous and didn’t shy away from difficult circumstances. She spent her life serving others and was always willing to go the extra mile to make one feel special.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles Randall “Randy” Thompson; two sons, Scott Randall Thompson (Maria), and James Bradford “Brad” Thompson (Leelee); three grandchildren, Scott “Scottie” Thompson, Jr., Katelynn “Katie” Thompson and Bradyn Thompson; one sister, Linda “Boo” Weakley; two brothers, Carroll “Tip” Weakley and Steward “Jerry” Weakley. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Virgil Pettit, Granville Weakley, Garland Weakley and Kenneth Weakley; and three sisters, Mary “Nede” Wash, Lucille “Jenny” Bobsin and Jackie “Effie” Alsop.
A private cremation service will be conducted on Monday, December 12. A memorial service and interment will take place at the Weakley Family Cemetery in Pine Grove, VA at a later date.
