Housing inventory up, sales of homes slowed in November

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County residential real estate market was quieter heading into the holiday season, according to a press release from Talk to Tucker.

The average sale price for a home in Hancock County increased 16.3% in November, to $326,302. Housing inventory also continued to increase significantly in November, up 122.8% compared to this time last year.

The number of homes sold in November, however, decreased 22.8% in Hancock County.

Across the central Indiana region, year-to-date home sale prices increased 12.4% and pended home sales decreased 31.5%. The average home sale price in November for the 16-county central Indiana region was $310,867, an increase of 7.7% compared to November 2021. Available housing inventory increased, up 80.6% compared to November 2021.

New Castle Career Center offers work-based learning

NEW CASTLE – Culver’s in Greenfield is one of several regional sites where New castle Career Center students participate in work-based learning.

The Culinary Arts 2 program currently has eight students gaining valuable industry skills ranging from cooking to hospitality. Program sites include Primo, Heritage House, Boar’s Head, and Culver’s of Greenfield. Instructors also help students find placements in the communities that support the career center.

The machine trades program also sees full-circle experiences for students and employers. Employers donate time and materials to the career center, students get relevant training and get hired by these employers, and then the employers continue to give back to the center. Some of the work-based learning employers for Machine Trades are Magna Machine, Crown Equipment, Taurus Tool, Hoosier Feeder, Nixon Tool, TOMZ, Spiceland Wood Products, and Service Engineering.

The Welding Program at New Castle Career Center is another place where students experience work-based learning. The two-year program allows students to earn up to five welding certificates in three different welding processes. The class is also an Ivy Tech dual credit class.

The New Castle Career Center Welding Program is currently partnered with Crown, TS-Tech, Hoosier Feeder, and Hy-Flex. These companies provide steel, material, and equipment donations, along with work-based learning opportunities. Greenfield Main Street offers incentive for downtown shopping

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Main Street will continue to have Downtown Dollars available at an upcoming Christmas shopping event.

The Ho Ho Ho Holiday Market is 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 17 and Downtown Dollars are available at the Greenfield Main Street office, located in the Bradley Hall Event Center. When a person buys a $25 Downtown Dollar certificate, they get an additional $10 free. There are 15 downtown businesses that accept the Downtown Dollars certificates for purchases on items in their stores.
