Cougars bounce back with win at Speedway

Coming off its first loss of the season Friday in a Hoosier Heritage Conference game against New Palestine, Greenfield-Central rebounded with a 72-27 victory at Speedway Saturday.

Greenfield-Central (4-1) jumped out to a 25-5 lead at the end of the first period and had a 45-11 advantage at halftime. Senior Dylan Moles had 22 points. Sophomore Braylon Mullins finished with 17. Senior Tyler Kerkhof was a third double-figure scorer with 13.

Senior Will DeJarnett had seven rebounds and Braden Robertson grabbed five.

The Cougars travel to HHC foe Yorktown Friday and host Lawrenceburg Saturday.

Royals improve MEC record to 2-0

Eastern Hancock improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-Eastern Conference with a 62-27 victory at Daleville Saturday.

The Royals got a big lead early and were up 45-15 at halftime.

Edric Miller led three double-figure scorers with 18. Silas Spaulding scored 14 and Jacob Spaulding added 10.

The Royals return to action Friday at Knightstown.

Girls basketball

Mt. Vernon picks up second HHC win

Mt. Vernon’s girls basketball team improved to 2-0 in Hoosier Heritage Conference play with a 53-46 win at Yorktown Saturday.

Easton Wampler led the scoring with 14 points. Ellery Minch had 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. Khloe Patterson had eight points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals.

The Marauders are 8-3 overall and host New Palestine today.

Boys swimming

Marauders second at Shelby

Mt. Vernon’s boys swimming and diving team placed second at Saturday’s Shelbyville Relays.

Six teams participated. Yorktown won with 140 points. Mt. Vernon scored 124, edging out Pendleton Heights (114) for second.

The Marauders had victories in five events. Ethan Murphy, Matthew Garey, Brady Gray and Camden Cave won the 400-yard medley relay. Garey, Murphy, Adison Mayes and Gray won the 100 freestyle relay.

Garey, Mayes, and Murphy were victorious in the 150 backstroke relay. Cave, Gray and Garey won the 150 breaststroke relay and Mayes, Gray, Cave and Murphy won the 400 freestyle relay.

The team is off until a Jan. 2 meet against Connersville.

Dragons win three events

New Palestine’s boys swimming and diving team won three events at Saturday’s East Central Relays.

The Dragons won the 1000-yard freestyle relay with James Watson and Dawson Lynch, the 200 freestyle relay with Ian Erwin, Chase Martin, Liam Fuller and Dontae Thompson and the 150 breaststroke relay with Martin, Blake Hurst and Aidan Kingery.

The team scored 86 points and finished runner-up to East Central (92).

Next up for New Palestine is a dual at Pendleton Heights today.

EH is third

Eastern Hancock boys swimming and diving team placed third among six teams at the Eastern Hancock Invitational Saturday.

The Royals are back in action today with a home meet against Muncie Burris.

Girls swimming

New Pal wins three at EC

New Palestine’s girls swimming and diving team won three events at Saturday’s East Central Relays.

Sullie Leavell, Chloe Siler, Kyleigh Turner and Adrianna Huston won the 100-yard freestyle relay. Leavell, Siler, Katelyn Trimpe and Huston won the 400 freestyle relay and Leavell, Lillie Abernathy and Siler won the 150 butterfly relay.

New Palestine scored 60 points and finished third. East Central won with 78 points. Greenwood had 65.

The Dragons travel to Pendleton Heights today.

MV places third at relays

Mt. Vernon’s girls swimming and diving team placed third at the Shelbyville Relays Saturday.

Yorktown won with 136 points. Pendleton Heights was second with 122 and Mt. Vernon scored 104.

The Marauders won the 100-yard freestyle relay with Anna Hiner, Maddie Meyer, Emme Grubbs and Calista Smith.

Mt. Vernon is off until a Jan. 2 meet, at home, against Connersville.

Royals win invitational

Eastern Hancock girls swimming and diving team won the five-team Eastern Hancock Invitational Saturday.

The Royals are back in action today with a home meet against Muncie Burris.

Boys wrestling

Marauders go 4-1 at Traicoff Memorial

Mt. Vernon won four of five matches at the Chris Traicoff Memorial Tournament in Calumet Saturday.

The Marauders defeated River Forest (64-18), Whiteland (40-35), Southmont (47-33), and Franklin (45-25) and lost to Portage (56-18).

The Marauders host New Palestine Wednesday.

Guenin wins them all at Perry

Greenfield-Central’s Clay Guenin (170) went 4-0 at the Perry Meridian Invitational Saturday.

Jett McGuire (113), Kannon Zuber (138), Cohen Hager (145), Isaiah Holden (152) and Silas Frye (182) all finished 3-1 for the Cougars boys wrestling team.

In dual matches, G-C finished third with a 2-2 record.

Greenfield-Central beat Fort Campbell, Ky. (72-11) and Columbus East (33-23) and lost to Perry Meridian (42-27) and Carmel (55-15).

The Cougars return to action Saturday at Lafayette Jefferson.

Doss goes 4-0 at Roncalli duals

Bryce Doss (120) went unbeaten and four other New Palestine boys wrestlers went 3-1 at the Roncalli Duals Saturday.

Gunner Butt (106), Cole Vandygriff (113), Colin Whestel (182) and Shaun Glass (195) all won three of four competitions.

The Dragons went 1-3 in team duals. They defeated Monrovia 34-33 and lost to Noblesville (39-34), Roncalli (46-16) and Brownsburg (39-24).

New Palestine returns to action Wednesday with a dual meet at Mt. Vernon.

Girls wrestling

G-C, New Pal compete at Lebanon event

Girls wrestlers from Greenfield-Central and New Palestine competed Saturday at the Fourth Annual Lebanon High School Girls Wrestling Invitational.

Greenfield-Central placed 12th with 76 points. New Palestine scored 66 points and placed 16th. There were 52 different schools represented at the tournament. Penn won with 266 points.

For Greenfield-Central, Kylie Smith-Foster went 4-1 with four victories by fall. Abi Elliott finished 3-2 and Ella Harpold was 3-1.

Foster was first in the 113-pound division and was runner-up in the 113 Champ class. Elliott was second in the 138-A class and was second in the 138 3rd/4th group. Harpold was second at 170.

For New Palestine, Sydney DeLois was fifth in the 126 class, going 4-1 on the day. Jillian Champ was fifth in the 132A class with a 4-1 mark. Madisyn Covington was second in the 145 section and in the 145 3rd/4th group. She was 3-2 overall. Julia Champ was fifth in the 160 division with a record of 4-1.

Greenfield-Central hosts Lebanon in a dual meet Thursday. New Palestine travels to Warren Central on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
