Greenfield school students collect items for charity

GREENFIELD – Greenfield-Central Schools have been hosting several collection events for charities in November. Greenfield Intermediate School and Maxwell Intermediate School both had a non-perishable food drive for the Hancock County Food Pantry. More than 1,200 items were collected by GIS; Sara Seelman’s fourth grade class collected the most and earned a pizza party. Maxwell Intermediate School collected nearly 500 items. The drives were organized by the school’s K-Kids clubs.

Several local schools are also hosting collection boxes for Toys for Tots this month.

EH to have community meetings

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Eastern Hancock Community Schools will host CAFE (Community and Family Engagement) meetings Dec. 8.

Community partners and leaders are invited to the 8:30 a.m. meeting. Both meetings will be in the Eastern Hancock High School library. Families are invited to the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Topics include the Royal profile of a graduate; graduation requirements, class rank and other graduation-related honors and awards; and more. Tri Kappa scholarships available

GREENFIELD – Tri Kappa, a local service sorority, is seeking applicants for state scholarships to be awarded for the 2023-24 school year.

The student must be a college sophomore, junior or senior in an accredited baccalaureate or graduate program to apply. A student with interrupted studies of at least five years but enrolled for 2023-24 may also apply. Past recipients may also request an application.

There are three different scholarships available: an academic scholarship; a fine arts scholarship for those majoring in dance, drama, music or art; and a scholarship for those wishing to teach music.

Current college students can request an application by emailing Heather Seib at [email protected]. The application must be completed and returned by Jan. 31, 2023.

Career center to host open houses

NEW CASTLE – The New Castle Career Center will be hosting open house sessions for current sophomore and junior students. These sessions will serve as an opportunity for students and families to visit prospective programs and speak with the current instructors and students.

The open house sessions will be 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 7 and Jan. 27. Students may visit any of the 17 programs offered by the New Castle Career Center. The Broadcasting Program session will be at Knightstown High School; Health Careers will be at Danielson Center, 300 Trojan Lane; EMT will held at 432 Broad St.; Building Trades will be at their building site, 104 Winchester Drive; the remaining programs will be at New Castle High School, 801 Parkview Drive, New Castle.

G-CHS to present madrigal dinner

GREENFIELD – Tickets are on sale now for the Madrigal Dinner, presented by the Greenfield-Central High School Madrigal Choir. The medieval-themed event will be presented Dec. 9, 10 and 11 at Trinity Park United Methodist Church in Greenfield. Price is $25 and includes a chicken dinner. All seats must be reserved in advance at gcmusic.ludus.com.

City parks offers art classes for all ages

GREENFIELD – Tis the season to be creative, according to the Greenfield Parks and Recreation Art Studio. Several December teen and children’s classes are coming up: teen classes include iris folding ornament cards, wooden gnome cutouts and plush Christmas ornaments. Children’s classes include ugly Christmas sweater foam prints, mixed media greeting cards and painted wood slice ornaments. Visit parks.greenfieldin.org for dates, registration details and price.

The studio will also host an ugly sweater party from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10. The all-ages event encourages people to bring their own sweater and an additional $5; the studio will provide supplies to make the sweater as ugly or as cute as you desire. Pre-registration is available or drop-in is also accepted.

Classes are located in the lower level of the Patricia Elmore Center, 280 N. Apple St., Greenfield.
