Spelling victory: Local schools take part in statewide competition

Greenfield Intermediate School hosted six teams in a spell bowl competition.

GREENFIELD – Students across Hancock County competed in the 29th annual Elementary Spell Bowl competition Nov. 14.

Students in grades 4, 5 and 6 were among the roughly 6,000 students at sites statewide competing in the event.

In Hancock County, spell bowl sites were at Greenfield Intermediate School, Eastern Hancock Elementary School, Maxwell Intermediate School, New Palestine Elementary School and New Palestine Intermediate School.

Greenfield-Central schools used social media to congratulate its GIS and MIS teams; MIS placed first for fifth- and sixth-grades at the site and 10th in the state. The MIS fourth grade team placed 15th in the state.
