Generous families, groups needed for Christmas

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local residents, churches, groups and businesses interested in sponsoring a family in need this year for Christmas can consider two local programs.

The Hancock County Christmas Connection, formerly United Christmas Service, is seeking to partner with groups or individuals this year to help provide a child’s Christmas gifts. Those interested can sign up at loveinc-ghc.org, call 317-468-6300 or email [email protected].

Applications for families needing assistance will be accepted Nov. 1-18 at the family’s youngest child’s school. Families needing assistance are directed to contact their school counselor or call Love INC for more information.

Likewise, the McCordsville-based Blue Angel Connect is preparing for its Holiday Hope event and is seeking families to bless and donations from the community.

The nonprofit group works with public safety agencies in Hancock and Henry Counties to provide assistance to local families. Those that want to donate to the program – completely funded by individuals and businesses – may do so at blueangelconnect.org..

Salvation Army seeking bell ringers

GREENFIELD – Those wishing to volunteer their time this holiday season ringing bells for the Salvation Army of Hancock County can register online.

Visit registertoring.com, enter a zip code and find locations to ring at local businesses. In Hancock County, sites are Kroger and Walmart in Greenfield and Needler’s in New Palestine.

Donations for the organization can also be mailed to The Salvation Army, ℅ Brandywine Community Church, 1551 E. New Road, Greenfield.

The goal is to raise $60,000 this year; last year $51,000 was reached. The organization receives 12-20 calls every day for assistance. Having someone at the kettle means $50 more per hour in donations than if it weren’t manned at all; even more money is brought in if the bell ringers sing or come in costume.
