Chamber hosts veterans lunch, plans more events

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce recently hosted its annual free luncheon to honor local veterans. The event was Nov. 1 at NineStar Connect in Greenfield.

The Chamber also hosted a Women in Business conference Nov. 11, featuring a panel discussion by Amy Larrison, First Bank Shelbyville; Nicole Mann, Jane Pauley Community Health Center; Julie Hoover, Office Pride Commercial Cleaning Services; and Monica Holden, Greenfield Main Street.

The Chamber also participated in a ribbon-cutting event Nov. 9 at the new location of Edward Jones, 1780 Melody Lane; and a ribbon-cutting Nov. 11 for the remodeling of Walmart, 1965 N. State St. Upcoming ribbon-cutting events will be at Jersey Mike’s Subs at 10 a.m. Nov. 16, 1785 Melody Lane, Greenfield; and Shoe Sensation’s new location, 2237 Barrett Drive, Greenfield at 11 a.m. Nov. 18.

Coming up in December for the Chamber is the annual Jingle Mingle event with food, music a silent auction and networking. The event is 5:30-8 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Chamber building on the courthouse plaza. The Chamber is seeking donations for the silent auction.

Rotarians deliver apples to teachers

GREENFIELD – The Rotary Club of Greenfield spent time serving the community instead of having a formal meeting program Nov. 3, delivering apples to local teachers.

The Jeff Harris Memorial Apple Day was named in memory of the late Rotarian who for many years organized the event. The club visited every Greenfield school to deliver apples to teachers and staff in appreciation of their contributions to children through education, care and nurture. Organizing this year’s event were Jim Greig, Brad Herndon, Steve Foreman and John Senger. Leo’s Market and Eatery donated more than 900 apples for the project.

Shrine Club to host two meetings

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Shrine Club has two upcoming events.

The November meeting and meal is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Fraternal Order of Police. Cost is $10 per person; reserve a spot by Nov. 18 to President Jim Vosmek, 317-442-2696 or email [email protected].

The club’s Christmas party and officer installation is scheduled for Dec. 6 at Hancock Lodge No. 101. The meal, catered by the Bluebird Restaurant, is at 6 p.m. at a cost of $20 per person. Reserve a spot by Nov. 29 to Vosmek.

Benefit book sale Nov. 17-21

GREENFIELD – The Friends of the Hancock County Public Library will host its gently-used book sale Nov. 17-21 at the main branch, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. The sale also offers audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, and video games.

Friends may shop their members-only preview sale from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 17. Walk-ins can join the non-profit organization at a cost of $15 and shop the preview that night. Pick up a membership form on the Friends’ shelves near the entrance at either library building.

The sale opens to the public from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 18; 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 19; and 1-3:30 p.m. Nov. 20. Most hardbacks are $1, and paperbacks are 50 cents. Children’s books are 50 cents and 25 cents. DVDs, CDs, video games, and audiobooks are $1.

Bargain day is 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 21, when a standard paper grocery bag full of books sells for $3, a plastic grocery bag for $2.

Friends of the Library uses proceeds from the sale to help fund children’s and adult programming events at the HCPL.

Blingo fundraiser coming up

GREENFIELD – Tri Kappa’s annual “Blingo” designer purse Bingo fundraiser is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets are $40 for 10 games; there are also extra game packages available and raffles. Cash or check only; participants must be at least 21 to play. A light dinner will be provided. Tickets are available at Cynthia’s Hallmark or any Tri Kappa member; tickets are also available at the door.

Homemakers cooking class scheduled

GREENFIELD – Hancock County Extension Homemakers will host a Heritage Cooking Class this month.

The class, back by popular demand, will teach the basics of homestyle cooking in time for Thanksgiving, including how to make broth, dumplings and sugar cream pie. Samples and light refreshments will be included. The class will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road.
