McCORDSVILLE – A Michigan developer wants to bring about 130 homes to McCordsville’s north side.

Schafer Development, based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, is eyeing the development on 80 acres on the north side of CR 900N just west of the Bay Creek neighborhood and just east of where the Vintner’s Park neighborhood is going in.

The community would be divided into areas with four different minimum lot widths for single-family homes: 81 feet, 83 feet, 90 feet and 95 feet. Aaron Schafer, manager of land acquisitions and development for Schafer Development, said at a McCordsville Plan Commission meeting last week that the firm will enlist Pulte Homes to build some of the houses and is in conversations with three other builders, one of which is Fischer Homes.

“Being so close to the Geist Reservoir, we’ve taken great thought in designing an executive housing community the town is looking for,” Schafer said.

Schafer added the company wants to preserve as much of the five tree rows that run east to west along the property and other mature foliage on the site as possible.

The site currently has a residential zoning designation. Schafer Development is requesting that it be rezoned to a planned unit development, which would establish standards specific to the development. The plan commission gave that request a favorable recommendation to McCordsville Town Council.
