Local residents earn honors in quilt show

GREENFIELD – The Common Threads Quilt Guild of Hancock County recently congratulated winners of their recent Harvest of Quilts Show.

Carol Dresher won for the People’s Choice, Judges Choice and the “Star” Challenge division awards. The Best of Show winning quilt was made by Kristin Alfano.

The guild had more than 120 quilts hung for judging and viewing. The donation quilt, raising money for Women Helping Women of Hancock Co., was won by Barb Smith.

Holiday market, cooking class scheduled

GREENFIELD – Hancock County Extension Homemakers have two events coming up in November.

The homemakers will host a Country Vintage Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. The event that encourages people to start their holiday shopping early features free parking, free admission and food trucks on site. It will be located at the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds, 620 Apple St. For information, call Vickie Ramsey, 317-753-4144, or Margie Clark, 317-498-1549.

The homemakers will also host a Heritage Cooking Class. The class, back by popular demand, will teach the basics of homestyle cooking in time for Thanksgiving. Samples and recipes will be included. The class will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 15; location and cost will be announced at a later date.

Psi Iota Xi taking orders for cheeseballs, holiday greenery

GREENFIELD – The Upsilon chapter of Psi Iota Xi is taking orders for cheeseballs. This is the organization’s largest fundraiser. Money raised supports speech and hearing, art, literature and music efforts in Hancock County.

The chapter will be following health protocols and always prepares cheeseballs in a commercial kitchen with supervision of a food service professional. Cheeseballs will be ready for pick-up or delivery on or after Nov. 5.

Cheeseballs are $7 each and come in savory and chocolate chip dessert flavors. Savory cheeseballs can be ordered rolled in nuts or without nuts. To order, text (preferred) or call Katie Ottinger at 317-318-8313.

The Upsilon chapter is also selling holiday greenery through Sherwood Forest Farms. Products include evergreen wreaths, doorway and railing garland, and other holiday décor fresh from the Pacific Northwest. Shipping is free and direct to the customer. Free veterans luncheon scheduled

GREENFIELD – A free luncheon honoring service and sacrifice will be provided to Hancock County veterans and military members.

The Brandywine Creek Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host two seatings of a lunch at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Ninestar Connect Conference Center, 2243 E. U.S. 40.
